Mental Wellness and Substance Use Services (MWSUS) provides trauma-informed, culturally safe mental healthcare to Yukoners seeking to work on mental wellness and substance use issues. We have a wide range of experienced professionals working across several client group areas (youth, mental health nursing, adult outpatient, adult live-in, rural communities.) This role provides support services within the Intensive Treatment programs at the Sarah Steele Building located in Whitehorse. The Whitehorse Mental Wellness and Substance Use Intensive Treatment unit is looking for an energetic and skilled Treatment Support Worker (TSW) to join our team! As a Treatment Support Worker you will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team consisting of counselors, social workers and nurses, to provide support to individuals seeking treatment for mental health and substance use concerns.

As a Treatment Support Worker, you will provide emotional support, conflict resolution, programming, transportation and so much more, to clients struggling with substance use and mental health concerns, on a live-in and outpatient basis. To be successful in this role, you’ll be someone who is non-judgemental, passionate about building relationships, and committed to supporting clients to meet their personal treatment goals. You’ll be someone who can use your strong interpersonal and communication skills to help clients feel safe enough to work through challenges and commit to perseverance. You can expect to have variation in your day, which may consist of facilitating a workshop, taking clients on a community outing, coordinating services or participating alongside clients as they try new activities. The environment can be fast-paced and stressful; however, it is enormously rewarding in terms of the difference you are able to make in our clients’ lives.

Essential Qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications. Please note selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Experience supporting clients through skills such as recreational, vocational, life skills, daily living or educational programs
  • Experience providing client centered, strength based, trauma informed care to clients.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with competing client needs.
  • Experience with documentation and client records
  • Experience in areas of mental health and substance use would be an asset.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability

Candidates should have and may be assessed.

  • A genuine interest to work with clients of all ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds; particularly Yukon First Nations, with a strong awareness of intergenerational trauma and cultural competency.
  • Understanding of professional boundaries, ethical principles and self-care practices
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, conflict management and relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to respond to mental health, substance use and challenging behaviours.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate emotional intelligence, self-awareness, self-regulation, intrinsic motivation, empathy and social skills.

Additional Information:

Conditions of Employment: Valid First Aid and CPR level C with AED, RCMP security clearance with vulnerable sector, TB screening, Valid Class 5 driver’s licence, WHIMS (within 1 month of hire)

Job Requirements: Exposure to cleaning products; Light lifting and regular bending, climbing stairs; Driving in all seasons required; and Working in a 24/7 facility shift work entailing days, nights and weekends
