The Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba is seeking a Manager, Payments and Medical Aid to join the organization.

The WCB works with its partners to promote safe and healthy workplaces,

facilitate recovery and return to work, provide compassionate and supportive compensation services for workers and employers, and ensure responsible financial stewardship.

Reporting to the Director, Claims Service Centre, Payments and Medical Aid, the Manager, Payments and Medical Aid is responsible for providing leadership and direction on all programs and policies related to wage loss payments and medical aid entitlements. This role also manages the Payments and Medical Aid units of the Compensation Services division.

The successful individual will be a seasoned CPA professional with proven experience managing operations in a department and/or organization, as the Manager, Payments and Medical Aid will ensure that the Payments and Medical Aid department runs smoothly and efficiently while following all procedures and policies. This role will also work closely with other business units at WCB to create and maintain financial controls and policies, provide technical expertise, guidance, and direction on complex issues to staff, and address escalated customer services delivery issues.


  • Recognized professional accounting designation (i.e. CMA, CGA, CA or CPA)
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience managing daily payment operations in a financial or insurance environment including (2) years' managing direct reports, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Knowledge of financial controls/mathematics/analysis and insurance entitlement payment principles, processes, and practices
  • Knowledge of managerial techniques and principles
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers and software in a Windows environment
  • Well-developed analytical, problem solving and independent decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage the delivery of services toward the achievement of performance targets
  • Ability to plan and manage implementation of service delivery improvements
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies, and guidelines
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple demands in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage confrontational situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to lead, manage and motivate staff
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and manage change effectively within the department
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to senior management
