This posting is to hire a full-time permanent Nurse-in-Charge at Whitehorse Health Center, working 75 hours bi-weekly.

It will establish a 12-month eligibility list which will be used for future identical or similar vacancies.

This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.

Community Nursing is committed to providing excellent, accessible, and affordable services that assist individuals, families, and communities in reaching their full potential. As the Nurse-in-Charge, you will be responsible for efficiently and effectively operating the Whitehorse Health Centre to ensure the delivery of quality Public Health programs and services to clients in the Whitehorse area.

The Nurse-in-Charge is also responsible for managing human resources at Whitehorse Health Centre and its satellite clinic, NVD Place to achieve unit goals and deliver quality programs. Essential qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Baccalaureate in Nursing;
  • Current registration in good standing with a Canadian registered nursing regulatory body;
  • Significant immunization experience in a community health nursing role;
  • Recent substantial experience in community public heath nursing;
  • Recent experience in a supervisory role leading teams in a health care setting;
  • Experience in rural/northern outpost locations would be considered an asset; and,
  • Experience in supervising/managing the delivery of community health/public health programs considered an asset.

If selected for an interview, candidates should have, and may be assessed on, the following:

  • Strong knowledge in community health programs;
  • Strong supervisory skills;
  • Strong leadership skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, organization and flexibility;
  • Ability to lead, instruct, and counsel; and,
  • Clear understanding of confidentiality and privacy.

Conditions of employment

You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.

  • TB risk Screening,
  • Security Clearance with vulnerable sector,
  • Valid Driver’s License,
  • BScN degree,
  • Current Yukon RN registration in good standing,
  • Current CPR HCP

Job requirements

This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:

  • Occasional extended hours into evenings, on weekends and/ statutory holidays,
  • regular exposure to infectious agents,
  • willingness and ability to travel by road and air,
  • lifting up to 15kg.
