About this opportunity:
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP) within Cenovus' Occupational Health Clinic, you'll be an integral part of our commitment to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our employees. Working within our dynamic team, you'll deliver comprehensive medical care, preventive services, and health education programs tailored to the unique needs of our workforce and operations.
Responsibilities:
Diagnose and manage acute and chronic health conditions, order diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and provide comprehensive care with direct physician oversight
Focus on promoting health and preventing diseases by educating patients about healthy lifestyle choices, conducting screenings, and providing counseling on various health-related issues
Perform thorough patient assessments, including medical histories, physical examinations, and interpreting diagnostic tests to diagnose health conditions accurately
Develop individualized treatment plans for patients based on their diagnoses, which may include prescribing medications, therapies, or referrals to specialists
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care for patients across different settings
Educate patients about their health conditions, treatment options, medication management, self-care practices, and preventive measures to empower them to take control of their health
Provide rapid assessment and intervention for patients with acute health issues or injuries
Focus on prevention, diagnosis, treatment planning, patient education, collaboration with the healthcare team while emphasizing overall patient well-being
Provide, monitor and evaluate a wide range of occupational health services
Provide health expertise to functional groups (HR, Legal, Procurement), H&S, Emergency Response and Leadership as required
Develop a health promotion strategy and initiatives in support of; the public health agenda, specific occupational health risks and disease prevalence
Formulate, review and update Health Center procedures and policies
Provide management with information on the health status of the workforce and utilization of services
Conduct health assessments (job specific, pre-employment etc.) and health surveillance
Review and interpret OSHA required audiometric tests, pulmonary function exams; respirator fit testing and medical management of Cenovus Hearing Conservation Program and Cenovus Respirator Program
Oversee health training such as office ergonomics, blood borne pathogens, fatigue management, and health promotion initiatives
Assist when necessary, with treatments and advice including the rehabilitation of employees following sickness/injury
Working knowledge of case management for Occupational Health Injuries and Incidents, Short Term Disability, Family Medical Leave, Workers Compensation, and ADA
Advise personnel, HR and managers on aspects of sickness absence and rehabilitation
Be familiar and current with state and federal regulations effecting occupational health (i.e. OSHA) or laws that affect the work place such as FMLA, HIPAA, and ADA
Provide consultancy for potential occupational illnesses and injuries, which are monitored and reported upon as appropriate
Compile correspondence and reports to managers and external agencies
Compile and securely maintain accurate individual medical records, calibration records and all log books to align with company and statutory requirements
Follow all H&S programs, policies and procedures and Cenovus's code of conduct
Counseling of employees with referral to the EAP or other resources when appropriate
Develop links and working arrangements with external EAP providers for specialist psycho-social support and psychological emergencies
Make recommendations on resource, capability and capacity of health teams/function
Oversee Health Center budget/s and a range of external contracts and consultancy
Input and recall personnel data on a health database and compile statistical data
Manage and maintain all required Health Center pharmacy and testing license
Provide travel health and immunization advice to employees
Review and consult on pre-employment, random and follow-up drug and alcohol test results
Qualifications:
Required:
Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner with a demonstrated ability in occupational health (ie. working knowledge with FML, case management, etc.)
Master of Science in Nursing or higher degree from an accredited nurse practitioner program
Good interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations and multidisciplinary teams
Knowledge of occupational health regulations, standards, and best practices, including relevant federal and provincial legislation, with a commitment to promoting workplace health and safety at Cenovus
Preferred:
Three to five years in a manufacturing/production business unit
Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the province of practice, with certification as an Adult-Gerontology or Family Nurse Practitioner preferred
