Job Description

Applications are invited for a one-year fellowship in Gastrointestinal / Gynecological Pathology, commencing July 1, 2024. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at University of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) in association with Saskatoon City Hospital, Royal University Hospital and St. Paul's Hospital is an oncologic and provincial biomarker referral centre for Saskatchewan. Our department employs 23 pathologists and handles approximately 47,000 surgical and 10,000 non-gynecologic cytology specimens annually.

In addition, Saskatoon is one of a handful of centres across the country that has a mixture of both sub-specialized and general surgical pathology practices. We have sub-specialized pathologists working in the fields of gastrointestinal/liver, gynecologic, dermatologic, genitourinary, renal, breast, and pediatric pathology. This along with the volume of case material, quality of all the faculty and general environment is extremely nurturing and will help future fellows enhance their educational experience, diagnostic skills and carry out research work.

Responsibilities

This fellowship will be in GI and Gynecologic pathology where most of the fellow's time will be allocated to clinical service. The fellow will be expected to participate in one or more independent research projects suitable for peer review publication and will have the option to choose between an elective or research month. There will be opportunities to participate in medical student and resident teaching and to present at discipline specific seminars and rounds. This fellowship has a component of independent sign-out. The location of the fellowship will be in Saskatoon, primarily at Saskatoon City Hospital.

Job Qualifications

Minimum requirements include an MD (or equivalent) degree, certification in General or Anatomical Pathology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and eligibility for provisional licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan; eligibility licensing that permits independent practice will be regarded as an asset. This position is open to all qualified candidates; however, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada, and to trainees from Canadian residency programs. International medical graduates must ascertain their eligibility for registration with the College / physiciansapply.ca before applying.
