The Department of Academic Family Medicine (DAFM) is pleased to make available an academic contract opportunity for a qualified family physician with a start date on July 1, 2024.

The Saskatoon FM EM Site Director is responsible for the strategic development and operation of the Department's emergency medicine training site in Saskatoon. The Site Director, in collaboration with the FM EM Program Director and other Departmental academic and operational leaders, along with the residency program committee, oversees planning and organizing of all elements of residency training within the site, including selection of residents and training location, educational design, local policy and process development, safety, resident wellness, assessment of resident progress, and continuous improvement.

The Site Director supports and mentors other academic leaders within the training site. This individual also works collaboratively with Saskatchewan Health Authority leaders to ensure that academic program needs are met within the local health system.

The Site Director is part of the academic leadership team, sharing responsibilities irrespective of the specific job description to further the development of the overall program. This individual contributes to a positive, diverse, and inclusive work and learning environment by actively engaging in mentoring, self- awareness learning opportunities, relationship building, and communication.

Family Medicine-Emergency Medicine Enhanced Skills Program:

The Family Medicine-Emergency Medicine Enhanced Skills (FM-EM) Program has sites in Saskatoon, Regina, and Swift Current. There are 11 residents in the program at this time - 4 in Saskatoon, 5 in Regina and 2 in Swift Current. Each site is led by a local site director and delivers clinical and academic curricula to meet the requirements of the Residency Training Profile and assesses competence according to the CFPC's CRAFT principles, EM Priority Topics, and other assessment procedures. The FM-EM Program works collaboratively with the University of Saskatchewan FRCPC-EM Program.

The College of Medicine and the Department of Academic Family Medicine:

As the only medical school in Saskatchewan, the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan serves the province by producing outstanding clinical practitioners, generating new knowledge, and facilitating improved patient outcomes. As a provincial resource, it is critical for the College of Medicine to have a well-established provincial presence and the Department of Academic Family Medicine plays an integral role in this through its highly distributed nature.

Departmental faculty hold leadership roles in undergraduate and postgraduate education within the College. Physicians in the Department enjoy the benefits of a dynamic interdisciplinary team environment to support their clinical, teaching, and scholarly activities. Physicians and residents in all locations participate in the provision of a broad range of care across the lifecycle and in the office, home, community, emergency department and hospital. Our social accountability mandate is to train family physicians to care for the health needs of the rural, remote, and urban populations of Saskatchewan.
