Job Description

The Saskatchewan Health Authority - Saskatoon Integrated Service Area is seeking a full-time Clinical Biochemist (1.0 FTE) to join the Division of Clinical Biochemistry in the Laboratory Medicine program. This full-time position is based in Saskatoon, supporting all clinical sites in Saskatoon Integrated Areas. The successful candidate will join a group of laboratory professionals with diverse clinical and scientific expertise.

The Saskatoon Laboratory Medicine is affiliated with the Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine in the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. The Department has an accredited General Pathology residency training program, Clinical Biochemistry fellowship training program and provides training/teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral levels, and training for medical laboratory technologists and assistants.

The service responsibilities of this position will include quality oversight, equipment/method selection and validation, pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical processes, appropriate test utilization, testing result interpretation and clinical consultation/liaison with physicians, nurses and allied health professionals, and participation in on-call services. The academic responsibilities include teaching in the General Pathology Residency, Clinical Biochemistry fellowship training program, other Medical Education programs, and collaborative/independent research. The successful candidate is eligible for a faculty appointment with the University of Saskatchewan.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, able to work in team settings, and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience with point-of-care is an asset.

Job Qualifications

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree with formal training in Clinical Chemistry and be certified (or eligible for certification) in Clinical Chemistry by the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry and/or the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC).
