Job Description

The Saskatchewan Health Authority is seeking a General/Anatomical Pathologist to join a small practice at the Battlefords Union Hospital in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada. The position is full-time permanent; however, locum and part-time applicants are encouraged to apply.

The Battlefords Union Hospital is a regional hospital, serving north western Saskatchewan. The laboratory processes approximately 7,200 surgical pathology cases per year. There are no autopsies performed on site. In addition to Anatomical Pathology, services are provided in Biochemistry, Hematology and Coagulation, Transfusion Medicine and Microbiology. Experience in at least one of the clinical areas would be an asset.

Consultation services and support are readily available from Prince Albert and the nearby university centre of Saskatoon.

The successful candidate must work in a team-based, client focused environment, and partner with all team members to improve employee and patient safety by integrating safe work practices, identifying risk and implementing improvements when required. In addition, it is essential that the successful candidate exhibit excellent communication skills, collaborate collegially and effectively with colleagues, laboratory staff and other medical professionals, and provide a strong commitment to high quality patient and physician services.

Job Qualifications

The successful candidate shall have or be eligible for certification in General/Anatomical Pathology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). The successful candidate must also be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS) and have current Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage.

In accordance with Canadian Foreign Worker Requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.

This individual should be a team player, be able to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, staff and management, and function well in a high volume environment with a commitment to provision of high quality patient and family centered care.

The successful applicant is expected to participate in the undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education programs of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Services in the North West Area.
