The Respiratory Therapist (RT) in our new ambulatory respirology clinic will provide excellence in seamless pediatric, family-centered respiratory care through clinical practice, education, consultation/collaboration in supporting client transition to the community. The RT must demonstrate skills and the ability to deal with complex and changing clinical environments and client populations. The RT must demonstrate excellent communication skills, experience in critical care, and complex respiratory pediatric populations in the community. This position includes supporting clinical practice, clinical education, coordination of care, contributing to RT policies and procedures/standards of practice/medical directives, and supporting respiratory education. The successful candidate will be required to work directly with clients, interdisciplinary teams, and community vendors. This clinic will service clients with various medical complexities requiring respiratory assessment in the community. The clinic will run once a week on Thursdays.

The position requires a sound knowledge of the role of a Registered Respiratory Therapist and in keeping with the professional standards identified with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting clients with suspected sleep disorders and evaluating home respiratory support
  • Poor secretion management and evaluation for airway clearance therapies
  • Manage complex pediatric clients with asthma
  • Manage complex pediatric clients with recurrent pneumonias
  • Follows the status of clients requiring respiratory care, and suggesting interventions to maximize such care
  • Collaborates effectively with the interdisciplinary team
  • Ensures duties are completed and documented as necessary
  • Demonstrates therapeutic relationships with clients and caregivers
  • Follows direction of and makes suggestions for improvement to policies and procedures
  • Identifies and implements mechanisms of professional growth through continuing education
  • Demonstrates personal and professional standards in keeping with the C.R.T.O.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Will adhere to core principles of Client and Family Centered Care, which is demonstrated through: collaboration and information sharing; cooperation and participation; and respect with families, service agencies and the community at large

Qualifications

  • Current licensure with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario
  • Membership in C.S.R.T. and or R.T.S.O. is preferred
  • Current BCLS certificate—Basic Rescuer
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred
  • Experience in critical care, respiratory rehab, and complex continuing care
  • Experience with children with neuromuscular conditions (eg. DMD) preferred
  • Experience in chronic respiratory care/rehab an asset
  • Demonstrated verbal and written skills to communicate with clients and families, staff, and students/trainees is a requirement
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with a changing environment and client population
  • Proven ability to independently take initiative and the ability to function effectively as a contributing member of an interdisciplinary team
