Post Doctoral Fellow MAP Homeless Research Operations (Job ID: 4570)

MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions is a world-leading research centre dedicated to creating a healthier future for all. MAP is part of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael¿s Hospital at Unity Health Toronto and fully affiliated with the University of Toronto.

MAP is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to contribute to an internationally-recognized research program on homelessness, housing and health, as a member of a team under the leadership of Dr. Stephen Hwang. The research program focuses primarily on the development of program and policy interventions to improve the health of people experiencing homelessness and to end homelessness itself. The team uses a broad array of methods, including community-based participatory approaches, health services research using administrative databases, and qualitative and quantitative methods, including implementation and process evaluation and randomized controlled trials.

Current areas of active research include: improving service coordination and housing outcomes for people experiencing chronic homelessness; and optimizing in-hospital and post-hospital health care and supports for patients experiencing homelessness. Areas for possible future research development include: interventions to reduce social isolation among people with current and recent experiences of homelessness; and the evaluation of educational programs to enhance the quality of care that physicians and other health care professionals provide to people experiencing homelessness.

The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in identifying research gaps, generating research questions, designing and managing qualitative and/or quantitative studies, and developing proposals and analysis plans for analyses of various data sources. The fellow will lead and contribute to reports, peer-reviewed publications and funding applications, and will have opportunities to engage with policymakers, community agencies, data providers and people with lived and living experience. Other activities include presenting at conferences and other knowledge sharing events, and supervising undergraduate and practicum students. In addition to the above, the fellow will have the opportunity to conduct their own research within the scope of the research program or related to the team¿s current studies.

The fellow will receive mentorship and direction from Dr. Stephen Hwang and work closely with a team of highly experienced research staff, internal and external collaborators and people with lived and living experience of homelessness.
