Job Summary:
CSA Group has an immediate opportunity for a Laboratory Technician in the Piping/Plumbing Group in Toronto, Ontario.
The Piping/Plumbing team is responsible for performing a variety of testing activities to support the certification of pressurized and non-pressurized piping/plumbing products using documented operating procedures involving standards and custom projects.
Responsibilities:
Gain knowledge and familiarity of piping/plumbing standards; CSA, US and International standards
Set up samples, operate all test equipment and perform tests as per issued Work Order adhering to safety protocols
Record and compile technical data, perform calculations and summarize test results to prepare technical documents
Note and record discrepancies of products which may appear before or during tests and share them with appropriate personnel for resolution.
Provide information about the testing process and status of a work order to assist the certifier and project owner in progressing projects
Monitor and maintain lab supplies/consumables/materials' inventory and restock as necessary
Maintain good housekeeping of tools, equipment and work area following tests and carry out necessary laboratory clean-up duties
Contributes to the development and implementation of test requirements for new and/or revised standards as required
Learn and participate in a robust ISO 17025 Quality Assurance program
Perform other duties as assigned or as required by Management and willingness to occasionally work overtime on weekends/statutory holidays
Education & Experience:
3-year Technical Certificate or Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent education and experience
Familiarity with Piping/Plumbing standards and lab working environment
Skills:
Mechanical aptitude, hands-on approach and ability to use a variety of equipment
Ability to move/assemble/set up equipment and large samples around with assistance or independently
Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative and team-based environment
Adaptable to a changing work environment to support teamwork
Self-motivated and ability to work with moderate to minimal supervision
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with various audiences
Organization skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet required delivery dates
Knowledge in OHS&E procedures and guidelines
