Human Resources Business Partner (Job ID: 3929)

Position Profile:

Working in partnership with the broader People portfolio, the Human Resources Business Partner will play a key strategic role in supporting the organization's leaders in integrating Human Resources best practices and programs into their business. Core responsibilities will include advising, guiding, educating and supporting an assigned client group as it pertains to the management of their human resources from an operational and strategic perspective. The successful candidate will support client management decision-making with proactive advice and solutions designed to meet current and future business needs.

This is a network-wide position and the successful candidate may be assigned to work across our three (3) sites, depending on assigned portfolio: St. Michael's Hospital, St. Joseph's Health Centre and Providence Healthcare. Remote work of up to two (2) days per week may be supported, subject to operational needs.

Responsibilities:

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) provides a full range of value added HR services to an assigned client group. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide proactive Human Resource planning and advice within assigned program areas to support client achievement of operational and workforce objectives.
  • Engage with subject matter experts throughout HR and other corporate support areas to provide client(s) with a holistic approach to issue resolution, utilizing understanding of client(s) businesses, issues, challenges and related metrics to provide insight.
  • Support clients in addressing complex employee and labour relations issues, including collective agreement interpretation and application of employment legislation & Hospital policies.
  • Lead performance management processes and workplace investigations, including harassment investigations, and make related recommendations for resolution/outcomes.
  • Support workplace restructuring and other staffing change initiatives.
  • Work in partnership with Union leadership to address and resolve employee issues. Lead grievance responses for respective portfolio.
  • Develop and implement Human Resource training/education programs and procedures in collaboration with other HR team members to support client needs.
  • Support complex absence management, accommodation, disability and return to work cases in conjunction with Workplace Health, Safety and Wellness Services.
  • Lead and/or participate in the execution of various components of the People Plan to enhance service delivery within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Human Resources or a Bachelor's degree in a related field and a diploma or certificate in Human Resources Management.
  • Current membership with the Human Resources Professionals Association preferred.
  • CHRP or eligible for candidacy preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years¿ experience in Human Resources providing independent employee and labour relations advice, guidance, and effective solutions in support of client needs. Experience in healthcare or a similarly complex unionized public sector environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in leading workplace investigations, including harassment investigations.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of legal principles and framework associated with all aspects of Employee and Labour Relations (including collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, discipline and discharge, progressive performance management, attendance management etc.).
  • Solid knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures, and employment-related legislation (Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code and the Occupational Health and Safety Act).
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing values based, service oriented and collaborative partnerships.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Self-directed learner, with the ability to exercise independent decision making and problem-solving.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills required.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
