St. Joseph's Health Centre is looking to recruit C.T./X-Ray Technologists to join our wonderful team. This position is one of a team of 3 night technologists, working with the CT/Interventional/X-Ray Operations Leader, Diagnostic Imaging, primarily responsible for high quality CT/X-Ray Services to meet the needs of our referring physicians and patients. Our team works in a fast paced environment performing all types of X-Rays, Portable and CT exams. We service a busy emergency department, adult and neonatal intensive care units and a large walk-in pediatric clinic, enabling you to hone your skills in acute care imaging.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must possess a key element of professionalism. Meeting a standard of education with the required knowledge, skills and judgment to perform competently.
  • To function as the very image of care; actively working as the essential link between compassionate care and the most sophisticated imaging and therapeutic technologies
  • Prioritize exams based on room, and staff availability and clinical history
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate and complete
  • Perform all technologist responsibilities to ensure a high quality diagnostic result
  • Consult with the radiologist, nursing units and departmental nurses as to the special needs of each patient
  • Assist in the development of protocols to ensure consistency and standardization of examinations
  • Assist in inventory control, including ordering and restocking of supplies
  • Administer contrast media as required
  • Must ensure the care provided is safe, appropriate, tailored, timely, and maximize the potential of the available equipment and resources.
  • Function as a caring and compassionate healthcare professional that bridges the gap between humanity and the sophisticated technology they operate.
  • Must respect patient rights and needs, and foster an environment that encourages the patient¿s involvement in their own care. This commitment is extended to patients from all cultures and backgrounds, ensuring all are treated with dignity, equity and respect.
  • Contribute their knowledge and expertise to help shape policy and decisions and by providing education in medical radiation technology to the other members of the collaborative healthcare team both internally and externally within the organization.
  • Must participate in quality control, assurance and improvement programs
  • Must monitor patient status and respond to any change in condition, to ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Organizes, prioritizes and co-ordinates scheduling of procedures, communicates verbally with appropriate personnel re: procedure types, equipment failures, policies and procedures.
  • Must operate under the most current Ministry of Health guidelines in regards to radiation safety.
  • Must follow the ¿As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA)¿ principle, applying their knowledge of radiation effects and risks to minimize dose to their patients, other healthcare colleagues and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Registration and good standing with the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario.
  • CPR or BCLS certification mandatory.
  • Must be certified to inject contrast media
  • CT Experience an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal/written), and organization skills.
  • Must possess effective communication between colleagues, patients and their families. Assist in providing safe, effective and ethical outcomes for our patients and their families.
  • Must adhere to the standards of practice and code ethics outlined by the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario
  • Understanding and commitment to the Hospital's Mission and Values.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle stress and conflict management in a professional, effective manner.
  • Excellent problem recognition and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and accurately, both autonomously and as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, and set priorities, managing time effectively.
  • Should focus both on the task of performing the procedure or treatment, and place the individual patient at the centre of the process by caring for their emotional needs as well as providing physical care.
  • Commitment to meet the goals and objectives of the department.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service.
  • Must be flexible, punctual and have an excellent attendance record.
  • Must be eager and self-motivated to learn new techniques.
  • Completion of cross sectional anatomy course an asset.
  • Ability to work all shifts.

HOURS: Primarily night shifts, may be required to work other shifts as per departmental needs.
