Our Nursing team at Orchard Villa ensures that our Residents are safe, healthy, and happy. The Director of Clinical Care will enhance effective management and quality of nursing practice in keeping with the standards and expectations set out by governing bodies and internal policies and standards of care.
As Director of Clinical Care you will be accountable for:
  • Ensuring resident care is provided with established nursing standards and principles, and legislative requires under the Long Term Care Act
  • Ensures resident care is safe, evidence based, competent, caring, and comprehensive in complying with professional and regulatory standards of practice
  • Upholds accreditation standards and ensures that program and practice standards are consistent with professional guidelines
  • Working to oversee the development, implementation, review and evaluation of resident care plans
  • Managing and evaluating the work of nursing and personal care staff
  • Monitoring performance, conducting performance appraisals and working with the Director of Care to resolve performance concerns
  • Provide direction to the nursing department in conjunction with the Director of Care
  • Collaborate with the Director of Care in the implementation and evaluation of the nursing department initiatives and functions
  • Leads in the coordination and implementation of best practice and risk management initiatives related to resident care
  • Initiates investigative and corrective actions related to occupational health and safety
  • Assumes responsibility for all clinical staff in the Director of Care's absence
  • Creates an environment that promotes collaborative teamwork, and resident/family satisfaction
  • Supports Programs and Services Directors through the development and implementation of consistent clinical practices which includes: the standardization of clinical policies/procedures; demonstrated safety awareness; compliance with professional practice standards, and scheduled audits
  • Assesses and recommends efficiencies in resident processes, facilitates knowledge transfer and exchange, and participates in team and cross-functional meetings and committees, initiatives and events to ensure policy alignment and maximize collaboration
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
  • Appropriate current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar capacity
  • Previous similar experience in long-term care an asset, with comprehensive knowledge of duties.
  • Current certification in Infection Control (CIC) or must obtain Infection Control certification within 3 years of assuming the position and maintain certification considered an asset
  • Completion, or current enrollment in an approved IPAC Canada sponsored and endorsed Infection Control Course considered an asset
  • In depth knowledge of technical clinical skills and practices
  • Knowledge of effective education methods to drive best practices in nursing standards
  • Understanding and knowledge of how to develop policies and procedures in regard to nursing best practices and standards
  • Experience with falls and harm reduction strategies considered an asset
