The Community Ministry Worker provides support to the food bank program provided by The Salvation Army Ingersoll Community and Family Services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Food Bank

  • Assist with conducting intake services, client assessment to determine immediate needs and supports required by the client.
  • Assist other food bank staff with pick-ups of food/toy donations from community donors.
  • Aid with processing, unloading, documenting, sorting, reorganizing, and re-stocking food and toy donations for the Family Services program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
  • Maintain food bank stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of food bank area; assist with food drives as needed.
  • Arrange for the proper disposal of items received but not usable in the food bank.

Camp Support

  • Assist with registering children and youth for The Salvation Army provincial camping programs.
  • Communicate with families of children attending camp as required.
  • Provide supervision of children both to and from camp.
  • Answering phone calls and responding to or directing messages as appropriate.
  • May assist with the development of Community & Family Services social media page and/or content.
  • May acquire or create resource information for clients.
  • Work with volunteers as assigned.
  • Inform Community Ministries Coordinator of any complaints/issues.

Administration

  • Maintain written records, logs of activities, including activity reports and statistical information.
  • Maintain accurate records of client information in Link2Feed and on The Salvation Army's computer system while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Follow direction on the compliance and adherence to Operating Policies and Procedures (e.g., gift cards, vouchers, etc.).

Health and Safety

  • Adherence to all health and safety standards.
  • Assist with ensuring that the Food Bank is maintained in organization, appearance, maintenance, cleanliness, and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a temporary part-time position based on 30 hours per week for 9 weeks.
  • The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
  • This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for long periods of time.
  • The working environment is typically in the office, food bank in generally agreeable conditions.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs. (13.5kg).

Normal hours of work: Monday through Friday, hours will be set by your supervisor and will include a 30-minute unpaid meal break. Some flexibility regarding scheduling may be required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Submit as required a Police Record Check (vulnerable sector check) that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion.
  • This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
  • aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,
  • holds a valid Social Insurance Number; and,
    • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • *International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
  • An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of a minimum of grade ten (10).
  • Safe Food Handling and First Aid/CPR Certifications are an asset.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience working and/or volunteering in community-based programs, including experience working with multi-barriered persons.
