Description

The camp nurse will ensure proper health and safety of all campers and staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties:

  • Check in medications at registration; notify DYS/Camp Director of any special conditions.
  • Inform counselors of any medical concerns pertaining to those in their immediate care.
  • Disperse medications at appropriate times.
  • Be available to check for head lice - on a need to do basis.
  • Prepare and maintain camp hospital schedule.
  • Attend to any sickness or injury, taking whatever action is deemed necessary and appropriate at the time in accordance with accepted ethical practice - always keeping a record of same.
  • Assume responsibility for trays for sick campers when required.
  • Maintain adequate medical supplies and be prompt to notify DYS/Camp Director of need for replenishing. Large quantities to be requisitioned through the Camp Director.
  • Report all serious sickness or injury to the DYS/Camp Director.
  • Maintain proper standards for cleanliness, safety and protection of all persons at camp.
  • Responsible for dispensing medications. Other staff members are not to have access to supplies unless so authorized. Caution must be observed in this regard due to the many children on the campgrounds.
  • Keep hospital and isolation rooms clean and sanitary. Notify Camp Director if assistance is needed for special cleaning projects.
  • Inspect health forms of campers on arrival at camp, ensuring that all requested medical information is included. Routine will vary with type of camp.
  • Prepare report at the end of the season covering:
      1. Inventory
      2. Suggestions for future improvement
      3. Summary of season's work
  • Prepare supplies and equipment at closing for storage.
  • Wear camp uniform at specified hours, as instructed by Divisional Youth Secretary/Camp Director.
  • Daily inspection of camper's cabins.
  • Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Have the ability to work within a Christian faith-based camp setting and uphold the mission, vision and values of The Salvation Army by modeling Christian values.
  • Post-secondary nursing education preferred.
  • Nursing experience preferred.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.

SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:

The successful applicant will hold/have:

  • Nursing Certification
  • Nursing Student

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:

The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

  • Current Criminal/Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Clearance through The Salvation Army Child Abuse Registry
  • Completion of the Praesidium Online Abuse Prevention Training
  • Current First Aid Training

WORKING CONDITIONS: Contract position - 40 hours per week.

Contract Start Date: July 1st, 2024

Contract End Date: August 16th, 2024
