About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Adult Outpatient Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Occupational Therapist works as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and will provide occupational therapy services in an outpatient and community based setting to adults with mental health/addiction disorders who fit within the established target population. Services may include utilizing functional assessments to implement and evaluate client care strategies, assist the client and/or family in establishing a plan of care utilizing evidence based and recovery-based models in an outpatient/community setting, the provision of group treatment approaches and client, family and community education about mental health/concurrent disorders and their treatments.

The Occupational Therapist (OT) is one of the collaborators in the Collaborative Care Model, participating in the provision of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of patients/clients. As a member of the team, the OT participates in the overall plan of care with the patient/client by providing occupational therapy services.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy, Master of Science in Occupational Therapy preferred.
  • Registered (or eligible) with the Nova Scotia College of Occupational Therapist (COTNS) and the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT)
  • Certificate in Psycho-Social Rehabilitation in Practice, or willingness to complete within 2 years of hire
  • Three years' experience as an Occupational Therapist, with at least one year (recent) within the last five, in an inpatient/outpatient Mental Health & Addiction setting
    • If not available, candidates with two years' experience as an Occupational Therapist, with at least one year (recent) within the last five, in an inpatient/outpatient Mental Health & Addiction setting preferred
    • If not available, candidates with one year experience as an Occupational Therapist, with at least one year (recent) within the last five, in an inpatient/outpatient Mental Health & Addiction setting preferred
  • Experience in developing and providing group and individual psychoeducation
  • Demonstrated skills in completing functional assessments
  • Demonstrated ability to build client capacity to promote occupational performance
  • Evidence of ability to work independently, with a multidisciplinary team as well as with both hospital and community-based services/agencies
  • Demonstrated use of innovative problem solving and application of evidence-based practice to patient services
  • Travel may be required, must have access to reliable vehicle
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Temporary Full Time Position; 75 hours bi weekly
  • Approximately 14 months

Compensation and Incentives

$33.30 - $42.05 Hourly
