Description

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the implementation, instruction, and coordination of a limited range of community-based programs in accordance with the Salvation Army mission, values, and standards. The incumbent is responsible for the direct supervision of volunteers in a range of community-based programs and seasonal staffing requirements within established guidelines. The incumbent will also work in collaboration with the Ministry Unit lead to support other staff during scheduled vacation and busy working conditions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Give oversight to specific community ministries and programs, ensuring ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and applied to all program initiatives and where applicable link community members to the church family and church programs wherever possible.
  • Coordinate and oversee various community outreach programs i.e. The Christmas Kettle Campaign, Life-skills Development Classes, Income Tax Clinic, Support Groups, etc.
  • Provide program support for family ministries such as Afterschool program, Sports Outreach program, Kids Club, Baby Song, day camps, etc., both at the Corps and at the CFS.
  • Assist in ensuring volunteer safety, and adherence to all health and safety standards.
  • Research and develop materials necessary to supplement the curriculum for all new community ministries programming.
  • Create engaging activities for the clients to participate in and develop relationships.
  • Assess community needs and review client feedback to determine potential alternate programing and develop a strategy for the implementation of such programs.
  • Network and refer to The Salvation Army or community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program, when necessary.
  • Attend inter-agency and other social service agency community groups as directed.
  • Recruit new volunteers and provide oversight, guidance, coaching and direction to volunteers.
  • Complete program reports, logs of activities, and statistical recording as required in a timely, accurate, and organized manner.
  • Oversee the Christmas Kettle Campaign and recruit necessary support staff as required.
  • Actively promote White Rock Community and Family Services programs within the community.
  • Support the recruitment and registration of children and youth for Salvation Army provincial camping programs and strive to develop connection with these families.
  • Follow up with children/youth who attend Salvation Army summer camp programs, including their families, to build relationships and establish active links with the Corps and its mission and ministries.
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
  • Act in the best interest of the employer at all times.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
  • Complete other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Completion of a Community College Diploma, Social Services Worker, Child and Youth Worker or equivalent of at least one academic year.
  • Current, valid First Aid & CPR Certification or willingness to be trained.
  • Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including, experience in a variety of social service programs, with some supervisory experience, and experience communicating orally and in writing.
  • Must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL).
  • Knowledge of community-based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.
  • Experience working with individuals of diverse culture, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background check search.
  • Work in compliance with local policies, WSBC Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Hold a valid BC Class 5 driver’s license, a copy of a driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • Lead by example, demonstrate a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.

HOURS: Tuesday through Friday 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm and Sunday 10:00 am to 1:00 pm as per operational requirements and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break. Occasional travel and some scheduled overtime is associated with this position.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
