Detailed Overview

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator, Youth Concurrent Disorders (YCD) Program, the position participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team, assists in the planning and implementation of support services and social/recreational programs, and provides supportive counselling within established guidelines. This position requires travel to assigned sites within the region.


Responsibilities

  1. Assists staff in planning and implementing social, recreational and vocational activities and groups for clients.
  2. Assists clinical staff in the planning and implementation of psychoeducational and lifeskills groups as required.
  3. Contributes to staff clinical rounds and shares pertinent information and observations with the YCD Clinicians, as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  4. Provides one-to-one supportive counselling to clients by methods such as problem solving, de-escalation techniques, and activity-focused interventions.
  5. Records behavioural observations and interventions according to guidelines.
  6. Attends staff and multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and clinical supervision meetings as required.
  7. Attends related in-service education programs as requested to maintain a high standard of knowledge.
  8. Provides clients with transportation and accompaniment to and from group, work sites, educational institutions, recreational events, training events, and appointments.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience:


Degree in Social Sciences or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid B.C. Class V Driver's License and access to personal vehicle for business purposes.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with adolescents with mental health/psychiatric issues.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
