Registered Nurse, Informatics Critical Care - Langley ( Multiple Locations)

Responsible for the collection and assessment of clinical data for the designated program/unit; conducts clinical patient/data screening utilizing clinical criteria/protocols, data compilation, primary data interpretation, documentation and entry into Fraser Health clinical databases. Participates in the development, successful implementation, ongoing support and maintenance of designated clinical applications. Collaborates with staff throughout the designated program to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other related projects as identified.

1. Conducts comprehensive nursing assessments by interviewing patients/families and compiling key relevant data from multiple sources (Pathnet, Pharmanet, E-slate, PCIS, Lab and Diagnostic, Physicians history, Patient Health questionnaire) to determine appropriate level of care required, and/or conducts comprehensive clinical patient/data screening and compiles key relevant data from multiple sources (patient charts, lab and diagnostic, physician history, meditech etc.) in order to determine if care has been delivered within best practice standards.
2. Confirms supporting documentation and assesses all clinical parameters in order to validate assigned level of care and severity of illness.
3. Consults and collaborates with the health care team, site and regional peers, and Health Records Administrators to ensure reliability and validity of regional data.
4. Acts as client advocate to protect and promote clients right to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information.
5. Assists in the development, operation and maintenance of a regional clinical database common to both Fraser Health and Provincial Health Authorities by providing professional input as required.
6. Participates on designated programs and professional committees/teams including attending meetings, drafting/revising documentation/forms for review by committees and providing written/verbal input to facilitate the resolution of issues and/or to advocate for the goals and objectives of the program.
7. Accesses Health Records and appropriate IMIT software available at the site for data collection for the reliable collection of program data components through the effective utilization of the hospital medical record system. Attains designated caseload accrual requirement through the correct application of the program's randomization protocol.
8. Identifies streamlining and process improvement in the data collection process. Assesses its efficiency on a regular basis and provides input regarding redesigning the collection methodology as needed. Works alongside Health Records and IMIT to formulate an efficient and reliable way to obtain patient data.
9. Demonstrates appropriate utilization of resources, such as liaising with Health Records. Medical and related personnel, IMIT, and Quality Patient and Safety to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the Program.
10. Utilizes software applications available at the site for data collection and analysis. Enters data accurately and timely into the program's website and assures the transmission of completed data. Formulates and reviews weekly site accrual reports on the website and responds to accrual report alerts. Notifies Director or designate of reports & alerts; disseminates this information to the Director or designate.
11. Attends and participates in unit/program conference calls and department meetings to ensure reliable data collection and to disseminate information gained through the project.
12. Establishes effective working relationships with members of the hospital community, especially staff in Critical Care, Emergency, Medicine, Nursing, Medical Records and the Information Management/Information Technology whose support is necessary for the management and success of the program. Participates in regular meetings and committees to perform required duties.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Two (2) years of recent related experience and completion of applicable post graduate course work, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
