Salary range

The salary range for this position is CAD $31.89 - $43.65 / hour

Upon successful completion, you will be offered either a regular full-time or part-time position (minimum 0.50 FTE) in an existing vacancy in the Specialty area. Positions will depend on organizational and patient care needs as well as academic institution course availability.

Who can apply? Fraser Health LPN employees and external LPN applicants who meet the following criteria:

  • Current active practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
  • Current CPR certification
  • Preferred minimum 1-2 years acute care nursing experience
  • For current FHA employees, 1 reference will be obtained from your current manager by Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
  • For external applicants, two references will be collected by Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
  • Commit to a comprehensive education program
  • A commitment to a minimum of 18 month regular full-time or part-time FH employment in the specialty area upon successful completion of the program
  • An agreement to attend an orientation session at an educational institution
  • An agreement to travel to an appropriate site/campus and to clinical practice areas (mileage reimbursement per HEABC/ BCNU Letter of Understanding on Specialty Education)
  • An agreement to allow the education institution to release student progress information (complete/ incomplete/ withdrawn) to the FH Specialty Education division of Professional Practice

Please note that preference will be given to applicants who have not been previously sponsored for Specialty Education within the last 2 years.

Detailed Overview

Under the direction of the Manager, Clinical Operations or designate and in collaboration as a member of a multidisciplinary team; performs assessments, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care. The LPN operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), and according to agency operating policies and standards and unit specific protocols.


Responsibilities

  1. Assesses patient/resident/family's actual and potential strengths and limitations including physiological, psychological, socio-cultural, and spiritual needs.
  2. Provides a supportive environment for patient/resident/family. Promotes patient/resident/family involvement in health care decisions; provides information and opportunity to discuss concerns; respects personal choices.
  3. Contributes to the development and ongoing changes to the individualized plan of care, including attending and providing input into multidisciplinary care planning meetings and family conferences.
  4. Provides nursing care according to identified policies and procedures, technology and FHA standards and evaluates outcomes. Records observations and reports problems and/or changes to designated staff.
  5. Performs admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients/residents according to agency operating policies and procedures.
  6. Documents and updates all relevant care and procedure information to ensure patient/resident safety and comfort.
  7. Operates and maintains effective functioning equipment related to patient/resident care such as bathtubs, scales and mechanical lifts.
  8. Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients/residents and staff.
  9. Assists in the orientation of new staff, students and other members of the Health Care Team.
  10. Participates in continuous quality improvement and program evaluation activities, education sessions, team conferences, meetings and committees.
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduate of a recognized practical nursing program or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to organize work and implement a plan of care.
  • Knowledge and competencies to work at full scope of practice as currently required by the BCCNM, including administering medications.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
