Description

Summer Outreach/Family Services Worker will be working with persons who are homeless or other marginalized individuals. He/she will assist Outreach Workers and Family Services Worker by providing services for the homeless clients: engaging in conversations to assess their needs and direct them to the services that The Salvation Army provides such as shower, hygiene needs, Meal Centre Services (lunch), laundry, food hampers, nursing assistance, outreach assistance, shelter assistance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Summer Outreach/Family Services Worker will be a part of a client services team at the Centre of Hope, Cascade Community Ministries in carrying out various duties:

Family Services (Clothing Vouchers, food hampers, rental supplements) • Working in Client Café (Laundry, showers, kitchen, client services)

Outreach (Working in the field addressing client needs and meeting needs accordingly)

Case Planning (training with case planners, learning client interviewing, learning BC Housing data base system)

Temporary Summer Job

8 weeks - June - August 2024, 35 hours/week

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must meet the Canada Summer Jobs 2024 program participant criteria.

Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to create summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years old. The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period. International students are not eligible participants.

International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.

Applicants should genuinely enjoy interacting with others and leading activities for a diverse range of participants to create meaningful experiences, possess excellent communication skills both orally and in writing, possess basic computer skills, and be able to work cooperatively in a team setting with minimal supervision.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and complete a Criminal Record Check. Applicants must have good computer skills, excellent verbal/written skills, able to work cooperatively in a team setting with minimal supervision.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, will be required to provide:

  • Background check consent
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Completion of required Health and Safety training

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

We are looking for someone who can work well in a team setting, capable of working with people who have various mental/physical/addiction issues. Volunteer/work experience in a similar social services setting would be an asset.
