Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) is currently seeking a qualified Full-Time Permanent Team Lead, to provide support at the Youth Support Centre(YSC).

What We Do

YESS is a not-for-profit agency working with youth facing difficult realities. Based in Edmonton, our Youth Support Centre provides immediate and low-barrier 24/7 sleep support and individualized wrap-around supports for young people aged 15 - 24.

We work collaboratively within a network of care focused on the prevention of youth homelessness by providing youth with the necessary supports to stabilize their housing, improve their wellbeing, build life skills, connect with community, and avoid re-entry into homelessness.

What You Will Do

The Youth Support Centre Team Lead will be qualified to lead the Youth Support Centre team alongside the Youth Support Centre Supervisor. The YSC Team Lead will support a team in providing the highest quality of care for youth who access the Centre. The YSC Team Lead will support the youth through a trauma-informed lens and role model socially and professionally acceptable behaviors. Our 16 - bed shelter provides a safe, secure, and immediate place to stay for youth 15 - 21 years of age. The shelter provides beds for sleeping, basic needs like food, clothing, showers and laundry, school supplies, and packed lunches if youth are attending school or going to work.

The shift schedule is: 4 days on 4 days off


Hours: 9:00pm - 7:00am


Location: 9310-82 Avenue, Edmonton AB

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting a diverse team in developing their skills and competencies and navigating youth with a trauma-informed lens
  • Work alongside the YSC Supervisor for program growth and development
  • Completing assessments and documentation with staff and client
  • Liaise with team and support in creating pathways for youth
  • Provide guidance, training and support on the YSC floor for new staff, students, volunteers and YESS staff conducting shadow shifts
  • Manage crisis situations when client safety and security is threatened by demonstrating ability to prioritize, delegated and assume authority according to Agency standards.
  • Support team to provide client-centered services by developing strength-based, integrated, and comprehensive individualized plans and help clients formulate goals by addressing the strengths and needs of everyone
  • Maintain client records, including client assessments, treatment plans and progress notes
  • Review and maintain accurate and comprehensive written documentation regarding interactions with professionals, parents and youth in accordance with agency policy and standards
  • Conduct intake tours and explain program and expectation to volunteers, students, new staff and external supports coming into program.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • ability to deal with ambiguity and be flexible
  • proven skills to support through a trauma informed scope

You will be qualified to provide a safe, clean, and secure environment for youth. You have a harm reduction mind set and can provide suicidal ideation intervention and safety planning. You also know how to build community support connections.

What You Bring

  • A Certificate, Degree or Diploma in Child & Youth Care or related Human Services field
  • A minimum of two-five years experience working in shelters with high-risk and at-risk youth and/or navigating community resources for vulnerable people
  • A minimum of two-three years experience with leading a team and supervising staff
  • Experience in intake, risk assessment and safety planning is an asset
  • Knowledge of the values, beliefs, and practices of Aboriginal and other cultural and diverse groups
  • CYCAA Child and Youth Care certification will be considered an asset

Prerequisites

  • Training in first aid, and/or non-violent crisis intervention
  • Training in suicide intervention and harm reduction
  • Trauma - Informed Care Training
  • Clear police clearance (CRIM) and a Child and Youth Intervention (CYIM) checks, both obtained within the last six months
  • Valid driver’s license and driver’s abstract
  • Proof of vehicle insurance (at least $1 million third party liability)
  • Basic computer skills
