The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Program Manager. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 24 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The PICU Research Program is a growing clinical research program in pediatric critical care, based at the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. Our multi-professional team is dedicated to advancing knowledge and improving outcomes for critically ill children and their families. We engage with patients, families, and a healthcare team to ensure our research is relevant to all key parties. We lead local and multi-center trials and collaborate nationally and internationally on multi-center trials led at other institutions. Our program includes epidemiological, observational, interventional, educational, quality improvement, and qualitative methodologies.
There will be times when the individual may be required to work outside the normal working hours. Occasional national and international travel is required to attend project-related meetings and conferences. The primary location of work is the Alberta Children's Hospital. The position reports to the PICU Research Program Director.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Program Management
Manages resources (human, financial, and infrastructure) to ensure research projects will meet objectives and targets
Coordinating the interdisciplinary and interprofessional team and research collaborators
Coordinating research and QA/QI/PE projects, including the creation and implementation of the detail project plan, project reports, and dissemination of research outcomes
Participates in the research program strategy with delegation of tasks to the respective team members
Development, implementation, and continuous improvement of program policies, procedures, and processes with respect to all studies and initiatives
Set a vision for the research team and establish measures of success
Measure and evaluate the research impact of the research team
Identification of and development of Grant applications in collaboration with the PI and research team
Project Administrative Support
Obtain and maintain necessary ethical and AHS approvals
Support applications for internal, provincial, national and international funding to support operation of the Program
Manage and oversee purchases and expenses, monitor budgets and accounts, and provide financial reports as necessary
Interact with academic and AHS entities, including other researchers and their teams, and academic and administrative departments (e.g., HR, finances, legal)
Assist in writing research proposals for further development of research and QA/QI/PE projects
Management
Hiring, performance, and management of PICU Research Team members
Train, coach and mentor junior team members (including undergraduate and graduate students, research assistants and research coordinators)
Full managerial discretion over direct reports, including performance management, discipline, and termination in consultation with Program Director and Principal Investigators
Participation in selecting and management of trainees in collaboration with the Academic supervisor
Participation in Research Fellowship program creation
