Description

The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Research Program Director.

This research team focuses on clinical research in the areas of critically ill children. Comfortable interacting with children, patients and families during stressful and emotional hospital admissions. Comfortable working in a hospital environment with actively unwell children.

This position is located at the Alberta Children's Hospital.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Screen for eligible patients, and consent patients and their families for multiple research studies
  • Manage and maintain study databases
  • Data collection (e.g., health data from medical records, questionnaires) and data entry
  • Data cleaning, and assistance with data analysis
  • Assist with interviews and focus groups

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in required
  • At least 2 years of experience with clinical research
  • Experience with interaction with patients and their families
  • Ability to navigate emotionally stressful situations with critically ill children and their families
  • Experience in screening and consenting study participants in critical care setting
  • Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative analysis
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Proficiency with accessing patient level data from medical records
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work independently, to multi-task, and to coordinate work with others
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and research databases
  • Experience with electronic medical records is an asset
  • Experience with ethics application and study management is desirable
  • Knowledge of the University of Calgary processes and procedures is desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skill
