Job details
Build your experience where your skills can take you further. You trained for the moments when your skills, judgement and ability to think on your feet really matter. At Superior North EMS, you'll have opportunities to put all of that into practice. As a District Paramedic, you'll be part of an established staffing model SNEMS has used for over two decades, providing coverage for full-time vacancies, vacation, leaves and other operational needs. While hours vary based on service requirements, District Paramedics currently work an average of 84 hours every two weeks - equivalent to seven 12-hour shifts - with opportunities to work overtime at time and a half. You'll provide front-line emergency medical care across rural and remote communities throughout the Thunder Bay District, making a meaningful difference for the people who live, work and travel here. And there's real financial value behind the opportunity: $41.38–$45.84/hour, 14% in lieu of benefits following probation, an optional matching pension and up to $8,000 through the District recruitment incentive for eligible new hires. A Different Pace. A Different Kind of Experience. District paramedicine isn't simply a lower-volume version of urban paramedicine. The experience itself is different. Some shifts may bring fewer calls, but those calls can mean longer transports, extended time caring for and monitoring your patient, highway emergencies, or acute situations where the next level of support is farther away. You're not simply moving from one call to the next. You may have more opportunity to follow a patient's condition over time, respond as their needs change and rely on your own clinical judgement, adaptability and resourcefulness. For newer paramedics, that can help turn training into confidence and capability. For experienced paramedics, it can offer a different kind of practice - one that challenges you to use your skills in new environments and circumstances. And you'll work alongside paramedics and emergency-service professionals who understand the realities of the work. In smaller District teams, people rely on one another. That shared responsibility helps build the camaraderie, trust and strong working relationships our paramedics consistently tell us they value. It's experience that doesn't just add shifts to your résumé. It can help shape the paramedic you become. What You'll Do You'll assess, treat, monitor and safely transport patients while providing compassionate care in accordance with provincial standards and SNEMS protocols. Your key responsibilities include: Responding to emergency medical calls across District communities Assessing patients, determining care needs and providing appropriate treatment Delivering patient care in accordance with BLS and ALS Patient Care Standards Monitoring and safely transporting patients, including during longer-distance transfers Assessing environmental, patient and personal safety risks Working closely with CACC and emergency-response partners Completing required patient-care and incident documentation Maintaining vehicles, medical equipment and supplies so you're ready for the next call An Opportunity That Can Work for You Depending on location, schedules can include 12-hour shifts and different work rotations, including one station offering seven-days-on/seven-days-off rotations. Live outside the District community where you're scheduled to work? Crew housing is available while you're working or on call where applicable, which can make travelling in for your scheduled work block an option without having to arrange separate accommodation each time. Considering a move instead? District opportunities are available across communities including Armstrong, Shuniah, Conmee, Upsala, Longlac, Nakina, Geraldton, Red Rock, Nipigon, Terrace Bay, Schreiber, Marathon and Manitouwadge - offering a different pace of life, access to the outdoors and, depending on the community, the potential for a lower cost of living than many larger urban centres. What You Can Count On We want the value of the opportunity to be just as clear as the expectations of the role. $41.38–$45.84 per hour Average of 84 hours every two weeks, with opportunities to work overtime at time and a half 14% in lieu of benefits following successful completion of probation Up to $8,000 District recruitment incentive for eligible new hires Optional matching pension plan Opportunities for additional hours based on operational requirements Physical fitness and gym membership subsidy Employee and Family Assistance Program and dedicated wellness resources Peer-to-peer wellness support Leadership development and tuition reimbursement Opportunities to explore future pathways in Community Paramedicine, Advanced Care Paramedicine, Education, Logistics, Operations and Leadership More From Where You Work - and Live Your career is only one part of the experience.
