All activities carried out by the Health Care Aide are consistent with Covenant Health's mission, values, policies and procedures. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Health Care Aide provides safe, Patient Centered Care throughout Villa Caritas, and is available for shifts on all 5 units. Description The Health Care Aide (HCA) is a regulated health professional who provides direct personal care and health support services to clients across the lifespan, in accordance with their scope of practice, regulatory standards, and government legislation. Functional supervision is provided by a member of the nursing team and may occur directly or indirectly in accordance with client needs, care context, and regulatory standards. Working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team the HCA provides care in alignment with documented care plans and assigned or delegated tasks, delivering assistance with activities of daily living, monitoring and reporting changes in health status, and supporting the physical, emotional, psychosocial and behavioural well being of clients. HCAs attend to clients¿ comfort, engagement, and safety by recognizing changes in behaviour, responsiveness, participation, or signs of distress, and by promptly sharing observations with the appropriate team member. They play a vital role in promoting comfort, dignity, and continuity of care, and demonstrate flexibility in responding to the needs of clients and the care team. HCAs actively engage in continuous improvement through feedback, self-reflection, and learning opportunities. The role requires initiative, openness to growth, and a strong commitment to professionalism, responsibility, and accountability. This includes intentionally living Covenant¿s values in day-to-day practice and reflecting them in decision-making, client interactions, teamwork, and the overall approach to care. Additional Required Qualifications Completion of the Health Care Aide program or recognized equivalent required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Ability to speak, read and write English fluently. Ability to maintain own educational requirements with the assistance of the education department and manager. Demonstrated patient care focused attitude in your day-to-day work. Ability to work independently and function as a team member. Ability to be self-directed, have good organizational and time management skills. Must be able to work in a fast-paced and, at times, highly stressful environment. Annual Influenza Immunization and FIT testing are required. Current clear Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search is required. Completion of grade 12 or equivalent preferred. Recent patient care experience in a Geriatric Psychiatry setting preferred. Experience with Connect Care preferred. Preferred Qualifications Recent patient care experience in a Geriatric Psychiatry or mental health setting preferred. Successful completion of a recognized mental health certificate program, or have successfully completed one full time year (2022.75 hours) of working with psychiatry or dementia patients/residents within an acute care or continuing care setting. Ability to maintain own educational requirements with the assistance of the education department and manager.
