Your Opportunity:

The Director, Forensic Psychiatric Services, working in close partnership with medical leadership, is accountable for the planning and delivery of high quality, accessible, sustainable, patient and family focused care for Alberta’s two forensic adult inpatient hospitals in addition to inpatient and outpatient forensic youth services. This includes court ordered assessments, treatment and rehabilitation, and custody stabilization as legally required for individuals involved in the legal system of Alberta. The role is accountable for the overall strategic implementation and operational planning for the assigned areas, ensuring the alignment with provincial program strategies and Recovery Alberta strategic and operational plans. This includes developing and implementing site-based plans, ensuring the effective deployment of resources, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and developing collaborative relationships with other Recovery Alberta and other provincial programs. The Director is expected to work collaboratively with other operational and medical leaders to ensure programs are integrated and focused on improving client care and meet legislative and clinical requirements of forensic services. The Director will also work with provincial teams and legal system partners to influence and inform provincial strategy development, implementation and integration.

Description:

In partnership with medical leadership, the director of Forensic Psychiatric Services participates in strategic and operational planning for assigned sites by developing the portfolio strategic plan and contributing to the development of operational plans that support patient and family-focused, integrated care programs and delivery. They lead the implementation and evaluation of site operational plans. They contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of overarching Recovery Alberta clinical policies and procedures within the assigned area as outlined by the Recovery Alberta program directors while fostering innovation, integration and consistency of patient and family focused, integrated care by establishing and maintaining strong relationships with directors from other programs and senior leaders, both within Recovery Alberta and other PHAs. The director will develop strong external relationships with community stakeholders, including government officials, advisory councils and foundations, and other public safety partners. The director leads the clinical operations. They ensure the effective deployment of human resources and creates a safe, healthy and inclusive workplace where employees and physicians can reach their full potential. The director fosters a culture of continuous improvement within the assigned sites to ensure the ongoing evolution of high-quality healthcare. The director ensures the appropriate allocation of fiscal and capital resources across the area of accountability and manages and reports on the operating budget, including budget forecasting and expenditure monitoring in accordance with established Recovery Alberta policies and practices. They also lead improvement initiatives, in coordination with clinical operations programs, to improve the overall clinical operations within the assigned sites.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of post-secondary education in a health profession. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Progressive leadership experience in a healthcare environment, including a minimum of three years' experience in a management role in clinical services or health care operations or in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Demonstrated record of achievement as a manager/leader, including extensive experience in improvement and innovation of services provided in a diverse clinical setting.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Practical experience in strategy, policy development, project and program management. Uses strategic thinking, taking into account long-term goals assessing options and implications. Demonstrated ability to lead change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources within a complex environment. Strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation and commitment to providing long-term quality services. Experience in collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within a large, diverse organization and managing within a unionized sector.

Preferred Qualifications:

Related graduate bachelor’s or master’s degree in a health discipline. Registration with an Alberta Regulated Health Profession. Leadership skills, including effective communication skills, demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Experience providing clinical service leadership for individuals receiving care within or relating to the public safety/justice system.
