About the role
Position Overview: The Education Department at Driftpile Cree Nation is seeking a dedicated, full-time Special Education Teacher to join the Mihtatakaw Sipiy School team for the 2026-2027 school year. Located within the heart of the Boreal Forest, Mihtatakaw Sipiy School offers a comprehensive K-12 academic program enriched by unique Cree language and cultural components. This is an exceptional opportunity to teach in a vibrant community where academic excellence and cultural tradition go hand in hand.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop individualized education plans (IPPs) based on the assessment results of these evaluations and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Creating an engaging learning environment that meets individual student needs.
- Design and implement a differentiated instruction program tailored to students’ specific needs.
- Employ various pedagogical methods and resources to enhance students’ learning experiences.
- Work in close collaboration with parents, tutors and other teachers and support staff to ensure that effective communication and support are provided for each student.
- Monitor students’ progress and personalize educational strategies to harmonize with their needs and promote student success.
- Create and keep detailed, up-to-date records of students’ achievements and difficulties.
- Stay informed about current trends, techniques and best practices in special education.
- Take part in professional development events and training sessions
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Education with experience in Special Education Teaching degree and Alberta’s Teacher’s Certificate (or eligibility for)
- Evidence of progressive special education teaching experience
- Excellent understanding of differentiated instruction
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with teachers to promote and deliver inclusive schooling
- Capacity to work in and respond to a demanding, fast-paced school environment
- Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check to be presented upon the interview
- Ability to speak Cree Language will be an asset
