Position Summary The Associate Director of Business Development will be responsible for generating new business opportunities, developing strategic relationships, expanding our client network, and increasing revenue growth. This individual will serve as a key commercial representative of Custom Biologics and will work closely with scientific and operational leaders to identify client needs and develop solutions that support drug development programs. The successful candidate will have a strong scientific background, prior business development experience within the CRO industry, and a proven track record of generating new client opportunities and revenue growth. This is a fully remote position open to candidates located within North America, with travel required for client visits, conferences, and industry events.
Key Responsibilities Business Development & Revenue Growth Identify and develop new client relationships within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and emerging therapeutic companies. Generate and qualify new business opportunities across Custom Biologics' service offerings. Develop and execute strategic business development plans to achieve revenue growth objectives. Build and maintain a robust pipeline of prospective clients and opportunities. Work collaboratively with scientific and operational teams to develop client-specific solutions and proposals. Manage opportunities through the sales cycle from initial contact through contract execution. Industry Networking & Conference Strategy Identify, evaluate, and attend key industry conferences, trade shows, partnering events, and networking opportunities. Schedule and conduct partnering meetings at industry events. Develop relationships with decision-makers, scientific leaders, and program managers within target organizations. Strategic Account Development Gather market intelligence and competitive insights to support strategic planning. Marketing & Market Intelligence Collaborate with leadership on strategic marketing initiatives. Support the development of technical marketing materials, webinars, white papers, and conference presentations. Monitor industry trends, emerging therapeutic modalities, and market opportunities. Provide regular pipeline, forecasting, and business development reports to leadership. Required Qualifications Scientific degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline. Minimum 5 years of business development, sales, or strategic account management experience within a contract research organization (CRO). Experience supporting biologics, gene therapy, cell therapy, RNA therapeutics, or biomarker programs. Strong understanding of preclinical and clinical development programs. Demonstrated experience generating new business opportunities and closing scientific services contracts. Existing network within the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Experience and proficiency with CRM platforms such as Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar systems. Experience tracking sales pipelines, forecasting opportunities, and preparing business development reports. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. Willingness to travel throughout North America as required.
