Your Opportunity:

The Developmental Disabilities Mental Health (DDMH) Program is seeking a permanent 1.0 FTE Occupational Therapist II. DDMH provides psychiatric care for adults with developmental disabilities and mental health disorders, behavioral challenges, and complex needs who are eligible for services with Persons with Developmental Disabilities Program. DDMH services include a community clinic (Arnika) and outreach service. Reporting to the Manager, the OT II is a key member of DDMH’s care team, providing occupational therapy expertise, assessment and interventions using best practice and a recovery-oriented, strength-based approach. The OT will work collaboratively within the interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, clinical behavior specialists, speech-language pathologist, and therapy services. The OT II will carry a caseload as per OSR expectations and provide assessment, individual and group intervention, consultation, and staff/care-giver education and training. Provided services will occur in clinic, client homes, and community settings. Assessment and intervention may include focus on executive functioning, sensory processing, interoception, regulation skills, daily living skills, community engagement and participation, functional communication, and assessment and modification/adaptation of client environments. Providing education, coaching, and modeling to family and care providers. The OT II will support the program with complex cases as well as provide consultation and support to other programs at Sunridge Retail under the Manager. The OT II will support internal referral management and coordination of rehabilitation services within the program. Support leadership with program development and quality improvement initiatives.

Description:

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and Recovery Alberta policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

At least 2 years working as an Occupational Therapist working with individuals with mental health concerns. Knowledge and/or experience working directly with individuals with a dual diagnosis (IDD & Mental Health) or complex service needs. Competency to assess sensory processing and develop and implement sensory modulation approaches. Experience providing education and training. Valid Alberta Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle with business insurance for work related travel – work travel outside Calgary may be required. Clinical skills necessary to conduct discipline specific and psychosocial assessment, treatment planning, psychosocial intervention and crisis intervention. Physically be able to access various community locations including home environments, health care settings, and public locations. Strong skills in organization, time management, problem solving and critical thinking. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting. Demonstrate flexibility in a continually changing health care environment. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to thoroughly and accurately collect and document information in a professional and timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience directly supporting adults with developmental disabilities in a community rehab or Disability service funded provider setting (day or residential). Experience navigating the Persons with Developmental Disabilities program i.e. community living, employment, community access and specialized community support. Completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention. Experience in implementing clinical best practice, program development and quality assurance.
