Position Overview:
The Fitness Supervisor is responsible for the overseeing the fitness program while ensuring the safe and effective delivery of the program for patients. This position is also responsible for the supervision of fitness staff, including: Fitness Trainers, as well as programs like Group Fitness, Weight Room and Yoga.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Arrange and schedule all fitness classes.
- Schedule fitness staff.
- Supervision of fitness staff ensuring policies and procedures are being adhered to.
- Process Payroll and approving time off
- Ensure patient safety at all times.
- Provide fitness guidance and information to patients and fitness staff.
- Document all pertinent information for patient files and liaise with counsellors whenever required.
- Consult with nurses/doctors regarding patient health when necessary.
- Routine follow up to patient’s referrals for our Mobility and Rehabilitation Program.
- Identify staff training needs.
- Participate in the screening, interviewing and hiring of fitness staff.
- Complete annual staff reviews.
- Ensure First Aid, Fitness Certifications and BC Registration for fitness staff is up to date and current.
- Compose documents such as stretch guides, agendas, minutes of meetings, etc. as required.
- Oversee the maintenance of all fitness equipment.
- Purchase fitness equipment and supplies with Director approval.
- Annual equipment inventory.
Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Human Kinetics, Physical Education, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience working in a fitness, rehabilitation, or clinical exercise setting, preferably within a healthcare or patient-focused environment.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience overseeing fitness staff (e.g., personal trainers, group fitness instructors, or weight room attendants).
- Current and recognized fitness certification (e.g., CSEP, ACSM, NSCA, BCRPA, or equivalent).
- Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification; advanced life support certification is an asset.
- Eligible for, or current with, BC Fitness Registration (if applicable)
