Job Description: The Mental Health Nurse Coordinator, under the direction of the Urgent Care Manager and as part of the interdisciplinary Urgent Care Centre (UCC) team, is to provide a complex range of screening, triage, assessment, treatment and case coordination services to the community mental health and addictions population seen at the UCC. The incumbent provides program consultation and co-ordination, evaluation of clinical interventions, supervision, and provides professional and public education regarding mental health and addiction issues and resources. The incumbent will provide nursing leadership and clinical expertise in the development and maintenance of, community mental health and addiction treatment programs and ensure nursing practice standards are maintained.
Human Resources Exemption: No
Experience
- Expert in assess., diagnosis & treatment of major mental health & addiction issues
- 3+ years experience in inpatient or community mental health/addictions
Education
- Graduate from an approved School of Nursing
Other Education and Training
- Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate (BCLS)

- Knowledge of social determinants of health affecting vulnerable populations
- Knowledge of Truth and Reconciliation and its impact on working w/ individuals
- Knowledge of community resources including treatment programs & support agencies
- Ability to enter and retrieve data in computer database systems
- Demonstrated leadership skills, workload management and administration skills.
- Knowledge of psychiatric/psychosocial/addictions intervention & treatment models
- Exp. in mental health & addictions community outreach & crisis interventions
- Knowledge of assessment, triage, treatment and case management.
- Knowledge in addiction issues and mental health disorders
- Ability to prepare reports in a clear, concise and timely manner.
- Knowledge in psychopharmacology, indications and side-effects
- Able to work independently in a self motivated manner & respond under pressure
- Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to social and cultural diversity
- Ability to formulate evidence-based intervention based on clinical presentation
- Ability to identify, implement and evaluate areas of client difficulty.
- Knowledge in providing substance abuse treatment services
- Able to provide treatment planning for individuals w/ mental health/addictions
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
- Work collaboratively w/ a multidisciplinary team & other agencies in the commnty
- Understanding and knowledge of the needs of ppl w/ mental health/addictions
- Able to assess and respond effectively to aggressive behaviour and/or self-harm
- Excellent knowledge and skills related to community psychiatric nursing practice
- Knowledge of medication usage and side effects
- Ability to provide public presentation and professional training.
- Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act

- Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
- Registered/eligible to be registered with RPNAS (Reg Psych Nurses Assoc of Sask)
