Position Title

Occupational and Physical Therapist Assistant Instructor – Part-Time

Faculty/Instructor Profile

The School of Health and Wellness at Red Deer Polytechnic
is currently inviting applications for a part-time Instructor in the Occupational and Physical Therapist Assistant (OPTA) program.

The OPTA program is a two year diploma that prepares the graduate for an exciting and challenging career as an Occupational and/or Physical Therapist Assistant.
Students learn how to provide assistance to occupational therapists, physiotherapists and clients in a variety of health care settings such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools, public and private clinics, mental health facilities, and home care programs.

The OPTA program provides exceptional opportunities to work closely with students, faculty and staff in an innovative, supportive environment that fosters creativity, scholarship and commitment to student success.

Position Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Teaching students in classroom, lab, and/or clinical settings.

  • Creating a stimulating, effective, and learning-centered environment.

  • Marking, grading, and evaluation of student work.

  • Providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance to students.

  • Actively contributing and participating in program planning, curriculum development & review, project work, and scholarly activity.

  • Participating in School and Institution-wide initiatives and/or committees.

  • Demonstrating and promoting RDP organizational values and following
    RDP policies and practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Physical Therapy
  • Current registration as a Physiotherapist in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.
  • Recent clinical / practical experience
  • Excellent communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for teaching, ability to inspire students, and commitment to student learning and success
  • Ability to work effectively in an inter-professional team environment
  • Proven commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice
  • Current Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support Provider or Recertification Certificate (

HSF-BLS Provider) and Standard First Aid Certification

  • Driver’s License

  • Police Information Check

  • Current immunizations as per RDP requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching in a post-secondary environment
