What is a day in the life of an FA Rehabilitation Assistant?
Review daily schedule and travel to client homes and community settings Deliver pre-established treatment plans under the direction of an Occupational Therapist Support clients with therapeutic exercises (mobility, strength, balance) Assist with activities of daily living (e.g., dressing, meal prep, community access) Reinforce use of assistive devices and adaptive equipment Provide hands-on support, cueing, and motivation to help clients achieve functional goals Observe and report on client progress, challenges, and changes in status Travel between client visits throughout the day Complete session notes and documentation in a timely manner Communicate regularly with supervising therapists and interdisciplinary team Provide comprehensive reports Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational days; training sessions, and establishing personal networks
What do you need to be successful?
Physiotherapy Assistant/Occupational Therapy Assistant diploma from a recognized community college, or other equivalent Two years of relevant OTA/PTA experience is required Knowledge of the rehabilitation approach to client care and the roles of OT Experience with rehabilitation services (hospital, clinic, community), pool therapy and/or personal training certifications are all assets Excellent computer skills (i.e. ability to work in MS Word and Outlook) Great interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work with different personality types A valid Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle
