Calian / Deloitte is a third‑party service provider contracted by the Canadian Armed Forces Recruiting Group (CFRG) to provide information and candidate sourcing support for CAF career opportunities and entry programs.
Overview: As a member of the military, Internal Medicine Specialists - Infectious Disease belong to the Medical Specialist occupation in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and provide high-quality acute and critical care services, whether at Canadian Forces Health Services Clinics or while deployed on international, peacekeeping or humanitarian operations. They have the opportunity to be a leader within the CAF Health Services and serve as mentor and educator to the full spectrum of military health care providers.
Responsibilities: Provide specialized Infectious Diseases consultation and direct patient care services for CAF members across Canada. Advise military healthcare teams on the prevention, diagnosis, and management of infectious diseases in both domestic and deployed environments. Support outbreak investigation, infection prevention and control, antimicrobial stewardship, and force health protection initiatives. Contribute expertise during domestic operations, international deployments, humanitarian missions, and public health responses. Educate, mentor, and advise multidisciplinary healthcare teams on infectious diseases, emerging pathogens, travel medicine, and infection control practices. Maintain a high level of clinical expertise through practice within civilian healthcare institutions, academic centres, or public health organizations. Contributes to the development and implementation of healthcare policies, operational health directives, and infectious disease strategies within the CAF.
Requirements: Education & Certifications Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an accredited medical school. Licensure (or eligibility for licensure) to practice medicine in Canada. Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Internal Medicine. Royal College subspecialty certification in Infectious Diseases or equivalent fellowship training in Infectious Diseases. Experience Experience diagnosing and managing complex infectious diseases in inpatient and outpatient settings. Demonstrated expertise in infection prevention and control, antimicrobial stewardship, and outbreak management. Experience working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Teaching, mentoring, and clinical education experience considered an asset. Experience in public health, travel medicine, tropical medicine, global health, humanitarian operations, or outbreak response is considered an asset. Knowledge & Skills Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills in complex and evolving healthcare environments. Ability to provide infectious disease expertise in deployed, austere, or operational settings. Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices, emerging infectious diseases, and force health protection principles. Excellent communication, collaboration, and consultation skills. Commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining clinical readiness. Ability to contribute to healthcare policy development, operational planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
