Elk Island Public Schools Central Services building is located in Sherwood Park, at 683 Wye Road. Providing services for the Division, Central Services is comprised of eight departments, in addition to the Board of Trustees. The departments include Education Executive, Communication Services, Facility Services, Student Transportation, Human Resources, Financial Services, Supports for Students and Information Technologies. Central Services is staffed by 190 employees.

EIPS is recruiting a permanent full-time Speech Language Pathologist Assistant with our Support for Students department. This position requires a v****alid

driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle as some travel may

be required.

The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) and supports

the delivery of speech and language services to students at

various schools across the Division. Working under the direction of the Speech

Language Pathologist, the SLPA provides assists in delivering speech and

language support to students experiencing speech, language,

voice and fluency disorders. The position works directly with students

to implement treatment plans, document progress and develop materials for use in therapy. The role supports students

in schools with screening and assessment, maintenance of equipment, documentation

of progress, and with overcoming barriers to help them be successful

in school, at home and in their community.

Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Support

  • Assist with screening and assessment by observing student responses and reporting to the SLP
  • Implement targeted supports for individual students and small groups based on SLP plans
  • Work directly with students as assigned by the SLP
  • Share strategies to support staff in student speech and language development
  • Provide observations to support SLP planning and evaluation
  • Support student use of assistive technology and equipment
  • Modify materials and approaches to meet individual student needs
  • Promote a positive, engaging environment to encourage participation
  • Maintain student and personal safety during service delivery

Equipment

and Resources

  • Create and prepare therapy materials, activities, and equipment for sessions
  • Set up and maintain organized, ready-to-use therapy spaces
  • Track, manage, and maintain inventory of assessment and treatment materials
  • Ensure equipment and materials are clean, organized, and accessible
  • Support staff and family learning opportunities as directed by the SLP
  • Assist with development of home programs

Communicating and Reporting

  • Document student progress, track attendance, and maintain accurate records
  • Communicate observations and findings to the SLP
  • Support school staff in implementing speech and language strategies
  • Direct questions regarding diagnosis and treatment to the SLP
  • Seek guidance as needed and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Assist with administrative tasks and paperwork
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality of student information
  • Participate in professional development to support ongoing practice

Qualifications and Skills

Education

  • Preference for applicants with aTherapy Assistant Diploma
  • Will consider applicants with an Education Assistant Diploma or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • SLPA training or experience (not required but highly beneficial)
  • Experience and/or strong interest in AAC and assistive technology, including AAC software and applications (TouchChat, LAMP, Proloquo2Go, etc.) and LessonPix or similar material-development tools
  • Experience working with students with complex communication or learning needs
  • First Aid Certification
  • Ability to take direction and follow treatment plans as set in individual student plans and by the SLPs.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective organization and time management abilities.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
