About the role

Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Division at Waterloo Regional Health Network is seeking to add an additional in-person Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to our busy inpatient and outpatient services. We are a group of six child psychiatrists who work well together and value a team-based environment with patients and their families.

Our acute child and adolescent inpatient unit has 21 beds. In the outpatient clinic we see urgent referrals from the Emergency Department and from family physicians. We aim to provide short-term follow-up psychiatric care, supported by excellent allied health, psychology and nursing staff. We also offer consultative services for non-urgent referrals.

WRHN Midtown is a large 665-bed community hospital and an accredited teaching site of McMaster University. We routinely have psychiatry residents and medical students rotating with us. In addition to child and adolescent psychiatry, our psychiatric services include a 51-bed acute adult inpatient unit with psychiatric intensive care capabilities, a newly created additional 10-bed adult unit, an extended assessment mental health unit adjacent to the Emergency Department, and 50 rehabilitative psychiatry beds at our Chicopee site. We have a large 28-member department. On-call is busy but infrequent, typically no more than one to two times per month.

Reimbursement is fee-for-service, supplemented by stipend funding. We are interested in a full-time candidate to join us for a mix of inpatient and outpatient care.

Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and hold certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry. We also welcome interest from residents in their final year of specialty training.

If you enjoy challenging, complex work in a team-based environment and are comfortable providing both medication management and psychotherapeutic interventions, we would be interested in speaking with you.

Kitchener-Waterloo is a great place to raise a family, with world-class educational institutions and the amenities of a large urban centre, while still offering the warmth and tight-knit community associated with smaller cities. We are also a satellite campus of McMaster University’s Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine and routinely provide clinical teaching and supervision for regional psychiatry residents and medical students.

Interested candidates are invited to inquire about this opportunity by submitting their curriculum vitae by email to the attention of Lindsay Caroppo, Medical Affairs Coordinator, WRHN Chief of Staff Office, at lindsay.caroppo@wrhn.ca.

Waterloo Regional Health Network is committed to fair and equitable employment and in our recruitment and selection practices. We strongly believe in inclusion and diversity within our organization, and welcome all applicants including, but not limited to racialized communities, all religions and ethnicities, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ2S+ persons, Indigenous people, and all others who may contribute to the further diversification of our Hospital community. We are committed to providing and fostering a respectful workplace for all employees, free from violence and harassment.

Accommodations are available during all stages of the recruitment process in accordance with the Human Rights Code. WRHN is committed to complying with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) to provide an inclusive, barrier free workplace.
