POSITION: Four (4) Permanent Full-time Positions – Youth
Counsellor (Start Date - September 2026)
LOCATION: DSBN Elementary and Secondary Schools
RATE OF PAY: $63,544.01-$67,141.81 per year
SCHEDULE: 35 hours per week - 10 Month Position
Position Summary:
The successful applicant to this position will provide
relational-based support to students in Elementary and Secondary schools or
alternate environments, with a focus on promoting belonging, well-being,
engagements, and student success. Working collaboratively with school and
system-based professionals, the Youth Counsellor will support students through
responsive, restorative, trauma-informed approached within an educational
environment committed to student growth, inclusion and well-being.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a Child and Youth
Care or Social Services Diploma (CAAT) or qualifications deemed equivalent by the Board;
- A valid Ontario Driver’s
License with the ability to travel to schools with in DSBN;
- Demonstrates the ability to work as part of a
multi-disciplinary team, possesses strong organizational and time management
skills;
- Is an effective communicator
(both written and verbal);
- Demonstrates experience with successfully
supporting students who have social and /or emotional difficulties in
educational programs in both the elementary and secondary panels;
In addition, the successful applicant must demonstrate a
high level of proficiency in the following:
- Building purposeful,
supportive relationships with students to promote belonging, emotional
regulation, resilience, and engagement in school;
- Working collaboratively
with Administrators, Social Workers, attendance counsellors, school staff,
students, families, and select community agencies to identify and respond to
student needs;
- Using restorative,
trauma-informed, and relationship-based approaches to support students
experiencing social, emotional, behavioural, attendance, and mental health
challenges;
- Supporting students, in
goal setting, skill development, and self-regulation through individual, small
group, and classroom-based supports aligned with the CASEL wheel;
- Providing responsive
classroom and school-based support informed by student and school needs,
including evidence-informed strategies and interventions;
- Supporting attendance
re-engagement and successful transitions back to learning;
- Consulting regularly
with DSBN Mental Health and Well-being team;
- Maintaining appropriate
records and reports along with ensuring that the proper consents and releases
of information are followed;
- Exercising sound
professional judgment, reflective practice, and flexibility in response to
evolving student and school needs;
- Carrying out other
professional duties as assigned.
