Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.

The Manager of Medical Affairs is currently seeking a temporary Innovation Summer Student. The purpose of the position is to support Waypoint's mission of advancing mental health, addiction, and specialized geriatric care while gaining valuable practical experience in a health care environment. This placement is designed to support Medical Affairs initiatives related to workflow documentation, process mapping, and exploration of AI-enabled administrative tools and efficiencies. The placement provides exposure to healthcare administration, digital workflow design, and process improvement initiatives within a hospital environment.

Please Note: This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 500 Church St, Penetanguishene, ON.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to

  • Assist with documenting and mapping Medical Affairs workflows and administrative processes.
  • Support the development of draft reference materials, tip sheets, and process guides.
  • Conduct research on AI-enabled tools and administrative process improvement approaches relevant to healthcare environments.
  • Help organize and summarize feedback collected during workflow or tool review discussions.
  • Develop sample templates or prototype concepts to support administrative consistency and workflow efficiency.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions related to digital workflow and process improvement initiatives within Medical Affairs.
  • Managers have the right to assign additional duties and schedule alternate work locations based on operational requirements.
  • Performs all work at all times in compliance with all hospital policies and procedures, legislation (Occupational Health & Safety Act, Fire Code, WHMIS,etc) relevant to health and safety, security and potential risk hazards.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current enrollment in a recognized University or College Program is required.
  • Preference will be given to those with an additional undergraduate degree or college diploma in a related field.
  • Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results
  • Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to adapt readily to change and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude
  • Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values (Caring, Respect, Accountability, Innovation)
  • Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills.
