Responsibilities
As a member of the multi-disciplinary team under the functional supervision from the Registered Nurse (RN), the Health Care Attendant is responsible for supporting patient care through the delivery of basic care and assistance with indirect care tasks. Duties will include:
Supporting patients upon entry, admission and discharge Assisting patients with activities of daily living including proper hygiene care and feeding Providing one-to-one constant patient care as required Assisting patients adapt to the use of various assistive devices Answering call lights and rounding on patients Completing patients' personal belongings checklists Demonstrate initiative, independence, effective priority setting and problem solving techniques skills in a fast-paced and high-pressure environments, while maintaining professionalism and composure Assisting with cardiac arrest response Undertaking preparation of the deceased patient for the morgue Measuring intakes and outputs and communicating results to RNs Participating, with team members, in the patient care planning process and in the development and implementation of quality-based initiatives Documentation of care provided in electronic medical record as required (unit specific) Portering and transportation services for patients and supplies as needed. Carries out delegated tasks as assigned by nursing staff, in accordance with the care plan and scope of practice.
Qualifications
Personal Support Worker Certificate from an accredited community college/approved by the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities that is no less than 625 hours in length Current certification in Basic Lifesaver, Basic Rescuer C or Heartsaver Plus. Recent acute care experience. Experience caring for palliative patients strongly preferred. Ability to perform FULL range of duties in this position including specific types of patient care as directed within the list approved for the category and by the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written in the English Language. Ability to provide portering and transportation services for patients and supplies. Commitment to excellent customer service. Satisfactory attendance record.
