Fort McMurray Catholic Schools requires a full time Occupational Therapist. This job involves providing occupational therapy services to EEP - Gr. 6 students within an inclusive educational environment - some support to grades 7-12 may be required.

The primary responsibilities will focus on addressing and identifying occupational therapy needs, using assessment tools, which have been impacting the students performance in an early learning setting. Collaborating and communicating with both the school team and multi-disciplinary team is essential. Involvement in building capacity with teacher, other educational staff and through parents and family is primary responsibility.

Job Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Occupational Therapy or equivalent, with course work in assessment and treatment of fine motor, visual motor and perceptual difficulties
  • Registered and in good standing with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapy (ACOT)
  • Two or more years of experience would be considered an asset

Job Responsibilities and Activities

  • Multi-disciplinary Team participation and Individual Program Development (IPP/ISP)
  • Administer, score and interpret standardized occupational therapy assessments
  • Conduct occupational therapy within the context of typical classroom activities
  • Direct and assist students in performing daily classroom routines
  • Collaborate to develop broad based strategies that focus on integration occupational therapy within daily functioning of classroom/school environments
  • Professional Development focused on creating bench-strength and increasing knowledge for District
  • Model inclusive, broad based strategies for Teachers, Facilitators, Parents and EAs in the classroom.
  • Monitor childrens progress and advise on strategies for assessing students achievement of curricular outcomes in grades 1-6
  • Coordinate, plan and model programs in the classroom, such as Handwriting Without Tears
  • Assist and provide support to the team in the identification of children who qualify for Program Unit Funding
  • Develop/extend partnerships with the Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the Community

The successful candidate will be required to provide a vulnerable sector check along with a criminal record check. FMCSD may contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate which includes fluency with Google supports and MS Office.
