Learn more at shn.ca Job Description: Position Overview: Reporting to the Manager, Parking & Security. The locksmith installs, maintains, repairs and opens manual and automated locks, locking systems and security devices, computerized access control systems, door openers and hardware. The locksmith also cuts keys and modifies lock combinations. Responsibilities: • Install, repair, rebuild and replace locks and cylinders as required, Installing, maintaining and repairing different types of building locks including cylindrical, unit, mortise and rim, and reload cylinders, cutting new or replacement keys for authorized personnel as requested on Key Request forms, repairing locks on desks, file cabinets, display cases, and similar containers, picking locks for which keys have been lost, repairing or replacing door closure panic hardware or ADA openers, and making emergency repairs of locks as required under emergency conditions. • Assists in maintaining Master Key Systems by keeping accurate records of hardware changes and new lock installations in each building, and repairing, maintaining, and reloading cylinders for locks in the master key system. • Provides assistance during renovation of existing or construction of new facilities by determining the requirements for locking devices and systems from blueprints, schematics, or sketches, making recommendations for such systems based upon knowledge of available products, and installing or monitoring the installation of locking devices or systems on renovated or newly constructed facilities. Conduct door hardware evaluations and inspections of new and existing building facilities and sites, Work with outside contractors to assist with installation of Electronic Access Equipment and locking door hardware, (mag locks and electric strikes), • Determines established applicable hardware specifications for locks and locking devices by interpreting hardware schedules, blueprints, plans, sketches, work orders, etc. • Ensures that an adequate and appropriate stock of locksmith supplies and equipment is available for use by maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment including key blanks, lock parts, levers and springs, knobs, and cylinders, preparing requisitions for replacements items as necessary, and storing the supplies and equipment in a secure storage facility. • Where applicable, maintains a coded log of padlocks and records key numbers and associated locks for all SHN locations and changes lock combinations annually. • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds. • Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned. • Maintain control of High Security ASSA, Sargeant, BEST/Stanley master key system, • Inspect sites when notified of problems regarding locks, • Assist in the development of departmental security policies, standards and guidelines, • Design and cut unique keys by reviewing all current numbered keys issued in order to formulate new combinations, • Provide, recommend and implement physical security safeguards, services and access control measures for departmental assets and information, • Flexible to work at all SHN sites, • Required to work some shifts and be on-call, • Work with Security & Facilities Staff on a daily basis to ensure urgent repairs completed in a timely manner, • Perform other Security/Locksmith duties as assigned Requirements: • Successful completion of TAOL (The Association of Ontario Locksmiths) programs 1 & 2 (includes 8000 hours apprenticeship) • Successful completion of Locksmith 259L Certification • Valid Ontario Drivers License preferred • Ability to perform lock opening & bypass procedures • Proficient experience with master key systems (ASSA, BEST, Sargent) • Manual dexterity and the ability to do fine work on complex devices • Ability to read and interpret blueprint and manufacturers schematic and parts drawings • Excellent organizational, problem solving & troubleshooting skills • Proficient computer and keyboarding skills, including Word and Excel • Advanced experience in the use of Locksmith specialty tools & equipment, set up and operation of automated and manual system key cutting machines and related automated software • Ability to install and service high security lock systems and to re-combine/ re-key locks • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to interact positively and effectively with patients, public and staff • Demonstrates ability to prioritize multiple and changing demands that require attention to detail • Demonstrates ability to complete work accurately and in a timely fashion • Demonstrates ability to accomplish small projects from initial layout to completion, meeting target deadlines • Demonstrated ability to perform physically demanding work • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team under minimal supervision • Demonstrates knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care • Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area, including demonstrated understanding of Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA • Highly punctual • Demonstrates high standards of work outputs • Supports all three SHN sites This opportunity is posted to support the recruitment of an existing vacant position.
