About the role

Position Summary

Northern Health is looking for an experienced, highly efficient, and self-directed Switchboard Operator, Registration/Health Records Clerk to support the Health Records/Admitting department.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, this position operates the switchboard, public address and paging systems accepting and directing calls from a variety of customers according to established policies, standards and procedures; receives and directs patients and visitors; registers patients; responds to and monitors hospital alarms and emergency codes; and performs a variety of clerical duties related to receiving and registering of patients, identifying bed booking options, and cashier functions.

  • Min typing speed of 45 wpm required (testing will be conducted)
  • Medical terminology training is required (testing will be conducted)
  • Candidate must be prepared to complete a skills assessment as part of the hiring process.

Qualifications
  • Grade 12 education, two year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to keyboard at 45 w.p.m.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to deal with others effectively.

  • Ability to physically carry out the duties of the position.

  • Ability to organize work.

  • Ability to operate related equipment.
