We are looking for a skilled and passionate Senior Laboratory Technician (Testing Personnel) to join our dynamic clinical laboratory team to enhance our groundbreaking work.
Job Summary: The ideal candidate is an experienced molecular laboratory professional with hands-on experience in qPCR-based testing, RNA/DNA extraction and clinical laboratory operations who can independently process patient samples, maintain quality and regulatory compliance, and generate accurate diagnostic results. They are a motivated and highly detail-oriented team player with a degree in a life sciences field and/or experience in accredited clinical laboratories.
This is a full-time position requiring on-site work in Afynia’s Hamilton laboratory. The ideal candidate will assist in various laboratory activities, ensuring the smooth operation of diagnostic assays as well as research and development experiments to maintain Afynia’s high standards of quality. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the successful candidate will work as part of a highly qualified team to analyze patient samples and generate accurate results to guide physician’s clinical decisions.
Key Responsibilities: ● Perform qPCR and related molecular biology techniques, including RNA extraction/quantification, and cDNA synthesis. ● Receive, accession and process incoming clinical and research samples. ● Abide by Afynia’s Quality Management System to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies COLA, CLIA, and ISO 15189. ● Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, solutions, and buffers. ● Conduct work following Good Laboratory Practices. ● Conduct routine maintenance and qualification of laboratory equipment. ● Assist in designing and executing experiments, including collecting and analyzing data. ● Document results and maintain accurate laboratory records in compliance with protocols. ● Follow standard operating procedures to ensure safety and quality in the laboratory. ● Collaborate with team members on research projects to optimize test procedures and expand Afynia’s product pipeline. ● Participate in training and development activities to enhance technical skills.
Qualifications: ● Master’s degree (or Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 3 years work experience) in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field with hands-on qPCR-based laboratory experience. ● Experience with molecular biology techniques including qPCR, nucleic acid quantification, RNA/DNA extraction and micro pipetting. ● Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and procedures. ● Knowledge of HIPPA and PIPEDA requirements. ● Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols accurately. ● Good organizational and time management skills. ● Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Skills: ● Previous experience working in an accredited clinical laboratory under COLA, CLIA, CAP, ISO 15189 or 13485 regulations. ● Proficiency with laboratory software and data analysis tools. ● Basic knowledge of medical diagnostic laboratory operations and bioinformatics. ● Demonstrated knowledge of endometriosis and related women's health issues, with the ability to apply this understanding in a professional, clinical, research, or support-based setting. ● Experience using Microsoft Office and LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System). ● Knowledge and experience with ELISA, qPCR, and ddPCR.
