About The Role
McKesson Corporation is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Lead Data Scientist with specialized experience in Generative AI development. This pivotal role involves leading the design, development, and deployment of advanced machine learning and Generative AI solutions tailored to the healthcare industry. The successful candidate will leverage cutting-edge technologies to address complex healthcare challenges, enhance operational efficiencies, and enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.
In this role, you will be at the forefront of AI innovation, working closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, product management, and business stakeholders. Your expertise will help shape scalable AI systems such as large language models, retrieval-augmented generation architectures, AI agents, and intelligent automation workflows. The position offers an exciting opportunity to influence enterprise-level AI strategies, ensure ethical AI practices, and foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation within McKesson.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field. They should have 7 to 10+ years of experience in data science or advanced analytics, with a proven track record in developing and deploying Generative AI and large language models in production environments. Strong proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Hugging Face is essential.
Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, and experimental design is required. Experience working with cloud platforms like Azure (preferred), AWS, or GCP, along with MLOps best practices, is crucial. Excellent communication skills are necessary to translate complex technical concepts into clear insights for diverse audiences. Demonstrated leadership in project management, stakeholder influence, and mentoring junior team members is highly valued.
Responsibilities
Lead the entire lifecycle of Generative AI and agentic AI solutions, including ideation, research, prototyping, implementation, evaluation, deployment, and ongoing support. Architect and develop scalable GenAI systems such as large language models, retrieval-augmented generation applications, AI-driven agents, and automation workflows to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency. Promote best practices in prompt engineering, LLM evaluation, fine-tuning strategies, and secure hosting solutions. Apply advanced data science techniques to a broad range of use cases including predictive modeling, NLP, anomaly detection, recommendation systems, and analytics enabled by GenAI. Develop custom machine learning models and analytical frameworks tailored to healthcare and enterprise data challenges. Perform exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and statistical analysis to generate actionable insights and inform solution design. Collaborate with engineering and platform teams to deploy, monitor, and maintain AI solutions in cloud environments, adhering to MLOps standards. Establish model performance tracking, drift detection, and reliability monitoring to ensure ongoing effectiveness and improvement of deployed models and AI agents. Ensure solutions are scalable, cost-effective, resilient, and compliant with enterprise architecture standards. Implement strong model governance, documentation, and auditability across all AI solutions. Apply Responsible AI principles, ensuring transparency, explainability, data privacy, security, and regulatory compliance, especially within healthcare contexts. Guide the ethical and compliant use of LLMs and AI agents across enterprise applications. Work closely with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions, developing clear problem statements, design plans, and implementation roadmaps. Present technical insights and project updates to both technical teams and senior leadership to facilitate informed decision-making. Mentor junior data scientists and engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous learning within the team.
