The Manager, Genetics is accountable for the operation of the Genetics Laboratory Department in accordance with Dynacare’s Strategic and Operating Plans. This includes operational management at the employee and administrative levels. Primary functions include ensuring strong, positive employee relations, excellence and quality, efficient utilization of resources and budget implementation. Responsible for fostering a culture of quality and internal and external customer service by developing and initiating programs and policies that consistently promote service, quality and customer satisfaction. Responsible for managing operations in both the Impact Genetics and NIPT Laboratories. Encourage trust and open communication by addressing staff concerns and inquiries in a timely manner and promoting respect and equity amongst staff. Assist with the communication of information in a concise and timely manner to all staff regarding policy changes and other pertinent issues Create and support learning opportunities for staff and students Recommend, implement, and monitor departmental procedures, policies, and standards Manage daily operational requirements including; inventory, equipment maintenance requests, vendor contracts, supporting testing priorities and workflow changes to best meet client and operating needs Manage compliance; collection, preparation, and analysis of departmental reports and statistics Effective management of Health and Safety programs to ensure compliance with organizational and legislative requirements Lead quality management activities including occurrence management, monitoring quality metrics and preparing monthly/annual quality reports Lead and support team initiatives for accreditation, including internal and external audits. Develop, recommend, and implement strategies for continuous improvement in alignment with business goals which support departmental and company objectives Provide exceptional customer service support, promote awareness of our services and ensure customer needs are addressed Support business planning, goal development and project planning activities Prepare billing and financial reports for internal and external client use What YOU bring to the role: Extensive clinical laboratory experience, Molecular Diagnostics/Genetics preferred Minimum B.Sc. in a Genetics-related science and registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) 5-7 years previous managerial experience or demonstrated increased responsibility in a clinical laboratory environment demonstrating readiness for a management role Experience in planning, preparing and devising work schedules Direct experience in managing audits for regulatory compliance Demonstrated understanding of the principles and processes for providing customer satisfaction. This includes meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of processes In-depth knowledge of statistics and management reports an asset Certification or experience in lean workflow design an asset Experience in applying project management principles and techniques an asset Full proficiency with MS Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Provide leadership in planning and managing operations resources to ensure a high level of service and delivery. As a leader, role model and coach, foster an environment of positive employee relations, strong teamwork, and employee engagement. Create an environment of trust and open communication, by sharing information in a timely manner and encouraging multi-directional feedback. Act as a coach to promote career growth opportunities, educational pursuits, and participation in internal development programs. Manage people’s resources for optimal workforce planning, recruitment, performance goal setting, training, scheduling and effective workflow. Implement a talent strategy to align to talent current and future talent needs through recruitment & selection, employee development, EDI (equity, diversity & inclusion), workforce planning and succession planning. Set expectations, counsel, coach and manage employee performance on an on-going basis and in relation to their performance. Develop, implement, and monitor employee engagement initiatives in partnership with other leaders and HR to increase team performance and retention. Recognize team and employee achievement. Facilitate effective and collaborative working relationships among staff Working Conditions: Normal office/medical laboratory environment Pay rate: $84,000 to $105,000 annually The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
