Your Opportunity:

Description:

As an Orthopaedic Technician (Ortho Tech), you will apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of orthopaedic patients (clients, residents). You will observe, monitor, report and document changes in the patient's physical, mental and emotional state, while providing safe and effective, quality care. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Completion of an accredited specialty Orthopaedic Technician program. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience as an Orthopaedic Technician/Licensed Practical Nurse in an Emergency Department within the last 2 years. Ability to fulfill the role of LPN in the ER, which includes caring for a wide range of patient presentations separate from Orthopaedic concerns. Ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities is essential. Basic computer skills, familiarity with Connect Care, Netcare and PYXIS. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Good command of the English language. Ability to work as part of a team and with minimal supervision. Physical capability of performing all aspects of the role (bending, crouching, kneeling, overhead lifting, and mobilization of bariatric patients).

Preferred Qualifications:

Acute care experience. Connect Care training.
