POSITION TYPE FULL-TIME (3 pm – 11 pm or 11 pm – 7 am)
PART-TIME (Sat/Sun, 7 am – 7 pm or Sat/Sun, 7 pm – 7 am)
Overview
Mino’Ayaawag Ikwewag: All Women Doing Well, Mothering Centre is a loving, stable, and culturally grounded home for Indigenous mothers aged 18 and older who are at risk of CFS involvement. In partnership, Blue Thunderbird Family Care seeks to bring this vision to life, with the primary goal of preventing newborn apprehension by ensuring mothers and babies remain together. The Centre will provide culturally rooted care, wraparound supports, and flexible stays of three to six months, or longer when needed, to foster stability, healing, and family strength.
Position Summary:
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Aunties (support workers) to join our team. Aunties play a vital role in creating a safe, respectful, and culturally affirming environment for mothers and their newborns. You will provide day-to-day support, guidance, and care to residents, helping them build parenting skills, access resources, and maintain wellness for themselves and their babies.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct support to mothers and newborns in a residential setting Assist with daily routines, including infant care, meal preparation, and household tasks Support mothers in developing parenting skills and confidence Foster a safe, respectful, and trauma-informed environment Build trusting relationships with residents through empathy and cultural understanding Support access to community services, appointments, and resources Maintain accurate documentation and incident reporting Participate in team meetings and contribute to care planning Work alongside Elders and Knowledge Keepers Build relationships with Indigenous organizations and community partners
The successful candidate will meet the following conditions of employment:
Be legally entitled to work in Canada Valid Manitoba Driver’s License and access to a vehicle is an asset Satisfactory background checks Have current First Aid/CPR Level C Be physically capable of performing all childcare duties, including the ability to lift 50 lbs. Willingness to work flexible hours if required
Qualifications & Skills
Experience working with Indigenous women, families, and infants who have experienced trauma, mental health and/or addictions Knowledge of prenatal and postpartum care is an asset Understanding of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and strengths-based approaches Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Responsible, Reliable, and flexible Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and family preservation approaches Strong understanding of child welfare systems in Manitoba Experience supporting individuals with addictions and mental health challenges
Cultural Competence
Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and teachings is essential Lived experience and/or connection to Indigenous communities is considered a strong asset Commitment to culturally safe, respectful, and anti-oppressive practice
