Job Accuracy Posting Flag The hours of work, including start and stop times, days off, work area and work site may be subject to change consistent with operations requirements and applicable provisions of the Collective Agreement and statutes. **Testing may be required. ***A criminal record check may be required Summary Responsible for registering patients in the computerized admission, discharge, and transfer (ADT) system, processing preadmissions, admissions, and discharges, and coordinating bed assignments with clinical staff. Maintains patient registration records, generates reports, monitors bed availability, and performs related clerical and administrative duties to support efficient patient flow and hospital operations. What You Bring Education Grade 12 and two years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Skills and Abilities Ability to keyboard at 40 w.p.m. Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal with others effectively. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Ability to organize work. Ability to operate related equipment. Your Day to Day: Register patients by collecting demographic, personal, and billing information and processing preadmissions, admissions, transfers, and discharges in the ADT system. Prepare admission documentation, obtain required signatures, and issue patient identification bands. Access healthcare databases (e.g., HealthNet, PharmNet) to verify or assign PHNs and retrieve patient information as needed. Process payments and explain policies related to self-pay accounts, deposits, room charges, and admission procedures. Coordinate bed management by monitoring bed availability, assisting with bed assignments, and communicating with clinical staff. Facilitate patient transfers by handling requests and coordinating with healthcare facilities, physicians, air ambulance, and patient transport services. Maintain records and reports including admission lists, bed statistics, patient cancellations, audit reports, and other departmental files. Provide customer service by responding to patient and visitor inquiries, giving directions, arranging escorts, and safeguarding patient valuables. Perform administrative and operational support duties such as answering phones, booking appointments, photocopying documents, managing supplies, handling alarms, and arranging staff relief coverage. Support compliance and departmental operations by conducting data quality reviews, assisting with morgue and body-release procedures when required, training coworkers and students, and performing other related duties.
